Everything in our recording situation works fine. Except you can't hear what you're playing through the headphones. You can deal with it when you're playing live instruments, a.k.a, drums or piano, but we're trying to record an electric piano, and when you hit record you can't hear it at all.

All we have right now is a line out running from the mixer to the computer, and then the headphones are plugged into the mixer.

need more info? any suggestions?

need more info what daw are you using and what soundcard does the pc have speakers if not get a lead to connect from the sound card to the mixer .
at the moment you will not hear anything in the headphones because the computers sound out is not connected to the mixer.
is there a monitor button on the daw to hear what you are playing ?
if you have a sound blaster live there should be a box to tick for play sound and record at the same time(or its something like that)

on your soundcard there should be a jack socket usually green connect that to a mixer channel then send that channel to the master fader and you should now be able to hear what the computer is playing with the headphones.

need more info on your gear to say if its any different.
