Ok then. Thanks for your help everyone. This place is amazing!!!

I am going to read through everything, look into them and give my verdict and see what you guys think about it if that's alright?

Just one more thing. My computer at home is a really old basic one that I got as a leaving present when I left my old job (you know that it has got to be rubbish for a London firm to actually give away!!!!!!). What would I be able to take from that to put on my new one?

NOTHING. :) Let it die in its sleep. No organ donation.

Newegg is a good site to buy from, but you still need to be careful. They still sometimes sell you crap. I bought a power supply that just plain didn't work. I managed to get a partial refund, but between shipping both ways and restocking fees, I only got about $25 back on my $40 power supply (I'm in college, that's a lot).

I noticed that no one was recommending sound cards. Do you really not need a soundcard for recording?

because the guy already said hes getting a firepod

Ok dudes thanks alot.

From what I have been researching and from what my budget is, this is what I am going to go for, what do you think?

*Antec Sonata case with case and power supply

*ASUS A8N-E 939 mother board

*AMD Athlon 64 (3500)

*Western Digital WD2500JD 250gb 7200 RPM HDD

*Corsair memory sticks (2x512)

*CD Burner (any really!!)

*Graphics card. Still havent really looked into these. Do you really need 2 monitors with a firepod? It runs Cubase LE.

Anyway I'm really impressed with this site everyone is really willing to help each other out. Thanks alot in advance!!

The problem I ran into with the Firepod was using the unit as both a recording and playback device. I got feedback. I have my mics close enough to the mixing area so that it starts feeding back when trying to edit (in playback mode). Maybe I didn't set something up right. Anyway, my work around was to keep my old Echo Mia Sound card and designate that as the playback device while the Firepod serves as recording device. Like I say, maybe I don't have the Firepod set up correctly, but the only way the Firepod would work as both playback and recording device was to keep turning the gain down on the mics. Then I would have to reset them. That got old quickly, hence, the Firewire/Soundcard option.

I just got a dual head VGA card from computergeeks.com for under $20. Works fine with my audio, I imagine if I was going to play a game I would definitly need an upgrade, but I use that pc for editing audio only, and I like the card.

I also highly recomend getting removable drive bay, and an extra hard drive or two. If money is an issue look into several smaller drives over one big one. That way you can run your OS on one drive and track to the other. Then when your computer has an issue you still know that your tracks are safe. It is also handy to be able to remove a drive if you want to maybe do some tracking at a diffrent studio and then edit at home.

Seriously consider dual monitors. (dual head video card)

I went with the ATi Radeon 9200 dual head for the video card, $45 a year ago, probably cheaper now.
Western Digital HD's are a little loud for my tastes. If you want a quiet PC go with Seagate, a few bucks more but they really are damn near SILENT.

Remember that hard drives sound different in different cases. And you don’t need dual monitor but it sure helps. Like my dual 21” monitors is like having 42” of screen space. Nvidia cards are cheaper than ATI. These are the two top graphics chips makers. If your not a gamer and could careless for graphics card go with a fan less card usually a lower end card but no fan noise and less heat and it does not affect your audio quality.

I've got a P4 Intel system with an Antec Sonata case. The stock CPU fan was really loud but I just bought an Arctic Super Silent 4 Ultra TC and now you can't even hear the thing. I've tried other fans before with bad results but this thing is great. It has a huge heat sink and is thermally controlled (TC) and is so good that the fan doesn't even run most of the time (so no noise at all). I highly recommend them for fans. I'd look into getting one of these to go along with your AMD64: Silencer 64 Ultra TC. Now the noisest thing is my hard drive when it spins. Be careful which graphics card you choose since it might have a fan too and those can be pretty loud as well.

Wouldn't waste a dime on a soundcard if you own a Firepod. Do spend 29.99 on a PCI firewire card with a TI chipset.
