I have a noise problem I can't figure out. I recorded the quartet I sing with and when I started mixing I realized I had a problem. As I started reducing some of the low freq. I started hearing a noise like static. I tried an EQ sweep to see if I could find the freq. giving the problem but couldn't find it. Then by accident (forgot to turn power to my in line equalizer) I found that without any sound I heard that static thru the headphones. Thought it was clipping but it wasn't. any ideas.
recorded using :
n-track
direct pro 24\96
used 3 - AT-813 condenser mics
1 old akg D-1000E mic
roland keyboard
Technique used was, I recorded the Keyboard and 3 vocals at one time and then added the the fourth part later using the AKG.
The noise is on all tracks.
To experiment I used my CD player line out into line in on the direct pro to copy a comercial CD and the card worked fine no noise. ??????????????????

What's your recording chain? Mic- pre amp(type)-recorder-etc.

It was recorded direct into the direct pro 2496 using its preamp, so I guess it has to be something in the way the recording session was set up, but it is still happening.
