help a MIDI retard?

...so..im completely new to this....but ive decided to give this MIDI thing a shot...but so far, its only caused me frustration.

recently I bought a used MIDI keyboard (Yamaha PSR-225GM) and a MIDI to USB cable (CME U2MIDI). I downloaded a driver off the CME website so that the cable would be accessible in Vista.

I would like to use this keyboard in FL studio 5, but i have no idea how to do this. Im not even sure if my computer knows if theres a keyboard connected.

Thinking that maybe the keyboard was too old, i went out and bought another cheapy at a garage sale (Yamaha PSR-140).

please help. you can safely assume that i have little or no knowledge of how to use MIDI.

windows will detect it, and FL will allow you to select this device
just plug er in!!! Or that's the theory anyway
