I've noticed that noone has mentioned the Korg D-16 here. Admittedly not a Yamaha or Akai, but about a third of the price. How do you all feel about the Korg @$1200.?

hey dobro

I have owned my DPS for about 2 months now and love it. The recording is top notch. The only thing i am bummed about is that if i record in 24bit mode, I can't put that song to a cd with this unit. AKai will hopefully put an update for this.

But I heard that the Korg 16 can dither down to 16 bit after you have recorded a song in 24bit mode. Just a little info.

hi buck62

Hey, i having some problems understanding how to add external effects to a track or 2. I have a small korg multi-effects unit that I would like to add to a track. And the manual is not helping me very much.(I think the manual is hard to understand, but I could just be a retard).
I know you use the aux sends but please help me with an example of some sort.

Thanks muchos!

Well, I don't understand that at all. If it records in 24-bit, surely it can dither down to 16-bit preparatory to burning to a CD. Isn't the edit function capable of changing the bitdepth of the files? I mean, what's that CD drive on the dps16 for? Isn't it a CD burner? It's mostly a waste of space if it isn't.

The manual says you can change the bit rate but could result in a change in the overall pitch of your song, which could be a bummer. I am also new to the digital domain, so I am also finding out stuff.

dobro The current OS has no dither program, but I have been told by Akai that they are working on something that permits audio cd's to be burned directly from the unit. As it is now you can only backup your 24bit songs on the CDRW. This isn't a big deal for me because I don't even use a CDRW to backup. I have got one, but it was damaged in shipping so I have been using my SCSI zip 250 for backups and burning CDR's off my computer. I can see how the CDRW would be useless if you wanted to do everything on the Akai.:( I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to stall for awhile before adding a simple dither program. They might be able to put a program in that will allow the direct buring of DVD Audio disks. But who knows how long it will be before that really takes off.;)

sondriven The manual states on page 106 "You can change the sampling rate after recording data to tracks. However, in this case, the playback pitch will be change. Set the sampling rate before you start recording."

What this basically means is that you can change the frequency(96kHz, 48kHz, 44.1kHz, 32kHz) after you have started, but if you have any tracks already down they will sound like crap if you change the frequency. As far as I know there is no way to change the bit rate(24bit, 16bit) once you have anything recorded.:D

i have a tascam cd burner, and i believe i can burn in 24 bit. at least i've done so...but this was using the digital outs, not the scsi, so it probably don't matter because i probably don't know what i'm talking about....
