Is the standard helmholtz formula as given in the spreadheets on John Sayers site (Knightfly's corrected version) valid down to very shallow "depth from wall" numbers?

I am asking because I have an untreated ceiling that I don't want to add too much material to (thus lowering the height) but thought I might get away with a couple of H-absorbers on either end. From the spreadsheet, I can get down to 250HZ with a 1" depth (8in wide 3/4" slats, spaced at 1/10").

Somehow that seems non-intuitive. Anyone here with experience using absorbers this shallow?

Thanks
Kevin.

Thanks Rick - I may try that newsgroup at some point... looks a bit like swimming with sharks though ;)

Cheers

You can say that again. I BARELY made it out of the pool alive:D In fact, that site is what finally brought me to my senses regarding acoustics. Playing with gunpowder is safer:p
