First, I want to to thank the individuals on this forum for their past input for both myself and others. This is a great forum to learn from, with a majority of my knowledge coming from both this forum and 'trial-n-error'.

Secondaly, I'd like share this metal tune named 'No Way' that I recently finished. It's my first attempt at recording metal, although it is the primary influence in my musical background (next to classical)

Please let me know what you like and/or don't like.

song : "No Way"

This is my first attempt at the screamo vocals so be gentle with me. Also, I think the guitar solo, although clean, just lacks something. However, I'm very pleased with the overall outcome.

Soundclick is playing tricks on me again, I`ll try again later.
Man soundclicks is starting to get on my nerves.

Very cool tune. I don't know if it's the MP3 conversion, or the bitrate, or what, but the cymbals have a weird sound. Very compressed maybe? I'd say the levels are very loud, and this kind of clouds the mix up. Maybe drop the levels of everything down just a little, and it will give some of the lows a bit more room? Anyway, I like the tune. Guitar playing is excellent. Nice tone. I think the vocals are pretty good, myself. Sounds like you only need to do some mixing work, to bring out a more full sound. I like it.

Ok I got it, cool track.
This is very heavy, the guitars are very heavy and full.
Its loud as dogman mentioned.

the preformance is very good, so a little mixing and you have yourself a very heavy and energic track :)

Wow...that was fast. Thanks for listening and for providing feedback. I made some mods as you've both suggested...but...my ears are becoming fatigued. I'll have to take a re-listen tomorrow. I've posted some of the changes...hopefully it made a positive difference.

I wanna mention the room around the instruments. Man..........., I love the clear silence and the envelope on the ambience as it goes back into that crystal dark. Fuggen stellar to me. One of the better canvases I`ve heard a piece of work placed on in here. The snare sounds really good to me. The bass is notched well and lets that kick come out really good, but it seems there`s a gap on the low side between the kick and bass that would allow a bit more high end on the bass to get some of winding on the string sound. Did I say I'm all kicked up over the room sound... :)

Having troubles with Soundclick for some reason. Is this file posted anywhere else?

that's real cool David...

I loved the guitar riffing in the middle of the song... kind of off-the-wall but it fit for me...

maybe a new GENRE...Industrial Scrape Metal ISM

:mad:/\m/\ Rock on ISM...

Great guitar sound... realy big. When the gtr led the tune off I thought everything else would be invisible behind that, but when the drums came in they were crystal clear. Good mixing. There's a good rhythmic thing going between the triplets of the gtr and the drums, especially when they trade off. The gtr solo lines I think would sound fuller with another gtr part underneath - maybe sparser than the chunky heavy gtr that's in the rest of it, maybe just a chord every two beats.

Good job on this one.

Tim

Sonixx, thanks. It was a little off-the-wall. I wanted to try something different than the traditional circle of 5ths. Instead, it's a circle of 1s :D...anything goes. It was hard for me to break that traditional mold to try something new. The real fun part was double tracking the solo.
ISM all the way :D

Tim, thanks...I really appreciate that. I've been struggling for months...yes months, trying to get a decent sound without clobbering the rest of the instruments. I am fairly happy with it. I also have to agree with you about the underground sounds during the solo. I'll give that a try. There are actually a lot of cool guitar riffs that get covered by both the vocals and all of the gain on the guitar. That's what my next project is going to tackle...that type of issue, but in a different composition...and the guitars will be even heavier  . (HINT : It has to do with Carpricho Arabe metal style)

Guitar sound is okay but sounds very digital, pantera esque. Gotta say i hate the vocals, sounds like badly emulated pantera again. Solo is nice, like that bit although i might have added in some sort of other rythm instrument other than bass there. The spoken vocals i liked for a while but think they're used a little too often.

it's hard to tell some things with the conversion.

the gits are a little too processed for my taste.

the kit too, but again the mp3 conversion is hideing a lot here.

Yeah as Giraffe said the MP3 conversion isnt too hot.
The mix sounds good though.
The kick to me seems too clicky which I think makes it stand out a little too much.
Sounds like a sample although I could be mistaken. Kinda digital high end EQ sound from the kick.
Bass is a bit flat (not in the tone sense). Try to sharpen it a bit with EQ and add some more dynamics to the whole mix with volume automation if you find places that will work in the song.

chamelious:
Thanks...I was actually trying to get a similar pantera sound. The vocals...eh...I've always had a problem with that...still working on that. I agree that the solo needs a guitar backing track...thanks.

xfinsterx:
Thanks Chris. When is your next tune coming out...I've always enjoyed your work.

giraffe:
I may have over EQed the gits...I did a sweep and knocked out the harsh frequencies...otherwise I used only a little compression. The toms have chorus and the kick has too much click. I'm gonna change that, but am still looking for that big sound.

ecktronic:
My cd writer took a crap so I couldn't listen to it im my car. When I did, the kick (as you mentioned) stuck out like a boil...that'll get resolved. I'm also going to play around with the compression a bit to get more dynamics...I am also noticing it breathing (I think that's what it's called) in some places.

Yeah breathing or pumping from compression. Couldnt say i noticed it although I could quite have easily missed that.
Sometimes pumping can be good, but I would say that pumping is best for drums although I dont really know to much about that subject of mixing.
