hey people im just starting out on recording as you maybe gathered through my many posts asking questions lol! :D

just wondering how the best way to record vocals is. in the past when i was just messing around on a cheap mic with a standard soundcard i just played the music on the speakers and sang into a mic when i was walking around the room lol

is the proper way to use headphones while you are singing? i heard this is what most people do apart from bono apparently lol

are these ones good? http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/options.php?id=780

or can i get a cheaper set which will do the job? please tell me if there are some others lol :D

You can use any closed cup headphones to cue to the music. The main diff is some sound MUCH better than others. If you have the dosh, go for the AKG pair in the link.

If not, find another pair.

Be sure to stay clear of 'open cup' or 'open earpiece' or words to that effect. They are useless for overdubbing vocals because when you turn your head even slightly to one side you get feedback which can damage your hearing.

My favorite pair so far have been the Sony MDR-7506. I spent about an hour going back and forth with 20 headphones. Something about those I liked. Good sound, comfortable and around the $100 range.

I'm shopping for headphones myself, I've done lots of internet research and the Sony MDR-7506 ($100 price range) have probably had the least amount of general complaints in this price range, but something I keep finding when checking on the MDR-7506 are reviews and forums of people saying the Sony MDR-V6 Studio Headphones ($70 price range) are the same headphones except for the gold plated connector tip and no carring case, also, the one complaint I continue to see with the V-6 is the earpad falling apart over time, but they are replaceable, people even saying to replace them with other (brand name) earpads. Oh well, still shopping, if I get some MDR-V6's it will probably be from here http://www.bhphotovideo.com , out of all my shopping these are the lowest price V-6's I can find. If anyone else has lower prices, better headphones or both please shout it out!
