I need to buy headphones. The last three
sets I paid 80.00 apiece for all broke exactly in the same place after the warranty
was up of course. Can anyone recommend decent
headphones at a decent price? Also a decent
headphone amp at a decent price? The last
one I was using was a sampson. 5 outs. 119.00
dollars new, should I buy one? I hate spending money on HEADPHONES, I think they
are way overpriced.

where did your headphones break? i recently had two sets break in almost the same place- the entire left side fell off! i fixed them with some two part epoxy. i just clamped it overnight and theyre as good as new. the epoxy was only like $3-4 which was alot better than the $150 it wouldve cost to replace them.

They are Koss R/80's. I made a mistake, only paid 60.00 apiece. They broke on the left side where the adjustment is. Already
tried the glue deal, no go. Just contacted
Koss to see if I can get replacement parts.

2 months ago I purchase the Rolls ha43 headphone amp which controls and amplifies
up to 4 headphones it's priced around $70.00.
I personally monitor my recordings thru a
AKG K240 headphones($75.00) which are pretty decent and let others hear their mixes using
4 Sony Mdr-7502 which cost 'bout $45.00 a piece. I'm thinking of replacing my monitor 'phones with the Sennheiser hd525 which are lightwieght, clear and use neodymium ferrous magnet which offers dynamic
clarity in audio. ...Man, i sound like I'm
makin' a commercial! :)

I got a couple Sennheiser HD500s about a month ago. These are pretty good headphones. They sound great and are pretty rugged too. Also probably the most comfortable headphones I've had on my head. I think they were around $100-$120. I got them at Circuit City.

I got a set of AKG K-100's ...there not bad at all.. this is where price and quality meet

just dont buy a Leem HDA-44 headphone amp
its got a crap pre amp in it

I like Koss phones best. Even if they break, it's the sound your after!! You may find that different brands just won't compare.

i agree with Mister,i use akg 240's and love them,just under $80.

On the recommendation of the kind folk here at the BBS a few months ago, I ended up getting Sony MDR7506's - and they certainly live up to the great endorsements that everyone gave them. These are a really great set of headphones - you wont go wrong with these for around $90-100

Go for the AKGK 240 DF headphones. They are about $60/£90. They are designed especially for comfort (whilst mixing down say at night for a few hours). They are designed to sound like you are sitting in a room not listening in headphones. You say you don't like wasting money on headphones-me neither-that's why I bought these cus it's like listening to monitors-but late at night so I can carry on without hassle-well worth the money.

I've had great luck with the Samson headphone amp you mentioned. Many, many, many years and still going strong. It's currently splitting duty between the studio and my road rack where it's running my in-ear monitor system.

As for phones... can't help you there. I have four pair and I don't like any of 'em. Decent closed-back phones will run ya $120 or more, unfortunately, and are basically a must unless you want click track in your lead vocal and acoustic guitar tracks.

I tell ya, my Oz Audio headphone amp rocks.

6 seperate headphone mixes that include:

Stereo buss
4 mono busses

Each of the six people can adjust their volumes induvidually of the stereo buss, AND the 4 mono busses.

Usually I use it like this (regular old rock band)

Stereo bus just has a normal mix, everything somewhat even.

Buss 1- Bass Guitar
Buss 2- Guitar
Buss 3- Second guitar, or keyboards
Buss 4- Vocals

In this way, each musician can get the exact mix they want without bothering me! (Cause I am trying to get the sound to tape to be somewhat decent, and dealing with musician monitor mixes is a pain in the arse..)

$240. The headphone amps are louder than a jet. Seldomly do the musicians ever turn the master volume past 4, and that is only when they are in the same room with the drums.

This unit is build to last. I have dropped mine I don't know how many times now (too many I suppose) and there is not even a scratchy Pot on it!

It is the last headphone amp you will probably need. Well worth the money.
