i live in nyc and own akg k 240 monitor, & 141 monitors. both have a wire loose. can't hear out of both sides. cannot seem to find a repair service.

i really do want to have these repaired. if anyone can suggest a service. no one seems to do them.

also, i would need to purchase a backup. the new akgs seem a bit cheaper. they do not make these models anymore.

i was looking also at the beyerdynamic dt-880 premium.
i have used the akg's since 2002. tascam 8 track, now a neo 2488. l really like the headphones. any suggestions of repair, or headphones of similar quality, sound would be appreciated.

AKG K 271 MK II for $137!

I did get my K240's apart a couple years ago and fix a broken wire. The wire to the left ear-piece was too short and was tugging on the solder joint. I added a piece or wire and they've been great. It was very difficult getting them back together and I almost thought I wasn't going to be able to. Based on that I would guess that a repair charge for those would be close to or more than the replacement cost.

I did just find on Amazon AKG K 271 MK II for $137! (appear to be normally $250). So if you are looking at replacing your K240's for $99 you should go for the $137 instead.

I just received the K271's and I really like them. They are different. As a bass player I was a little shocked by the apparent lack of bottom in an A/B test with my 240's, but after having them on for a minute my brain adjusts and I hear everything so much clearer than in the 240's. Closed back will keep the headphones out of a mic too.

Sorry for not leaving any actual repair info here, but as a possible replacement, I thought these were worth mentioning.

I've taken apart a set of AKG phones before.......it aint worth it. Buy new ones. If you have your heart set on repair, your only real option is an AKG auth'd dealer, but then the phones may or may not be gone for several weeks as they will probably ship back to Austria for repair. Again, not worth it.

If you want to repair anything like that then your going to need to be able to take it apart and resolder the loose or broken connection. This is basic electronics repair 101 and you can do it with any kind of electronics that can be taken apart and put back together.
