Better Than You
I'm looking for a set of headphones that won't bleed for $100 or less. Anyone have any suggestions? Thinking about the Sony MDR 7506. Anyone using them?

Yo Toker-41:

For just a few pezzutos more than your stated budget, you can get a set of Beyer DT 250's.

They are closed and clear and unless you run your mic gain into clip, you won't get any leakage.

The sennheiser HD280s have pretty good isolation and are just under $100.

I have the 7506's, very good isolation- but I do fairly low volume acoustic stuff...some metal would probably put it to the test. Do a search for Extreme Isolation phones...

YO Cello-J:

I have a pair of Extreme cans stretched between one of my column speakers. Wearing these cans will squeeze your grey matter through your hair follicles. They are tight but will isolate if you head can stand it.

I'm using the 7506s. They are MUCH better at isolation than the Yamaha RH3s I was using, but I still get some bleed. Not bad though - main problem is metronome click bleeding through at the end of a track. The Sony's are a bit uncomfortable for me after a long tracking session - the coiled cord is annoying - they fold up on you when you take them off - but I like them ok. The sound is good and the isolation is acceptable. Gonna try the Senheiser HD280s next.

I A/B'd the Sony's and the Sennheiser 280's at the shop on a Roland demo track and found them pretty similar sonically. The Seenheiser's might have had the edge when it came to isolation but it was hard to tell. Both have the coiled cord (AT's have straight cords, but they sounded lifeless in comparison...) and the Sony's are a bit lighter.
Good luck...

PS-never tried the Extreme's...sounds like a sonic rush...not sure if it's my cup of tea...

I'm going to be buying a set of Shure E2 (or E2c) in the next couple weeks. My only concern is whether they'll be flat enough.
I have Etymotic ER-4S but they're well over $100.

Yo Dan the Dot:

I know you like these Extreme Isolation cans; you've promoed them here before.

But, if you ever put on a pair of Beyer 250 cans and then the Isolation cans, the Beyer are 100 percent better for hearing the sounds.

But, if you need your ears closed down for recording, quality sound isn't important so the Isolation cans will work.

I don't know about bending plastic -- if you bend it too much, it cracks or snaps or pops. Kind of like the cereal.
