First, I apologize if this isn't the right spot for this question. I couldn't find any forum section specifically geared toward monitor mixes :(

I can't seem to find any good leads for this question, aside from purchasing gear that is crazy expensive.

This is the equipment:
* Mackie Onyx 1640 (not 1640i)
* Logic 10
* Art Headamp 6 (not Pro)

I'd like to get individual stereo mixes of the music from Logic + aux sends from the board to each of the 6 separate headphones.

The tracks from Logic play stereo through the headamp just fine.

The problem is that the Mackie aux sends only show up in the left channel when I connect them to the ART headphone amp.

I'd like to offer separate stereo monitor mixes for each member of a 6 person group, but I can't do it without switching the headphone amp to mono. I can't figure out how to accomplish that task!

What am I missing? Any help would be much appreciated! I really do appreciate your time!

What are you using the Mackie Onyx 1640 for...?...what's on the Aux sends?
Do you really need to use the mixer? Are you using some sort of outboard processing/FX on the Aux?

What kind of converter/interface do you have?
If you have enough channels on the converter/interface....then you can send a stereo pair to each of the headphone stereo channels.

The 1640 is my interface, so everything goes through it. Including the main mix from Logic

I use the aux channels currently to dial in separate levels on each of the 16 channels. So, say vocalist is assigned to aux 1-- he wants no guitar and a ton of vox while they record. I bring the guitar channel to 0 on aux 1 and bring the vox to 6 on aux 1 that way he mostly hears himself. Like he requested.

The problem comes in when someone tracks over the takes. If I want them to hear a stereo mix I have to depress "mono" on the head amp. If I do that, then all the audio from their assigned aux channel comes in on the left side only.

Ex: vocalist is aux 1, I play back the mix for him in stereo to give him the full effect. If he starts singing into his mic while the "mono" button on the head amp is depressed, then he will only hear his vocals in the left side. In order to hear his vocals centered I have to press the mono button in. So then the mix is now in mono :(

I don't know, "I only heard" but the 1640 does not appear to be an interface? The 1640i IS a Firewire interface which the OP says he has not got.

I suspect he is going to need something pretty fancy to send individual stereo headphone mixes to U T C and all? Maybe even bespoke?

Dave.

Your Aux outs on the Onyx are mono (TS [tip/sleeve]connectors). The Aux ins on the ART are stereo (TRS [tip/ring/sleeve] connectors).

You could make a TS to TRS cable with the tip from the TS end connected to both the tip and sleeve of the TRS jack. You would still only have mono vocal but at least the mix would be in stereo.

Or buy one of THESE
