Headphone amp distortion help

Hi folks,
I have just started to use my new ART head amp ( one in four out unit).
Works fine when just listening to play back.But to monitor when recording the unit really distorts at what seems reasonable levels.

One set of phones from my desk or power amp in witch the sound card is connected works fine.Plug in the head amp and lots of distortion when monitoring.Tried setting up the levels in different ways but it always distorts.

Perhaps i have to change something re my sound card (M- Audio 1010LT).
Or get a better head amp.
Any help would be appreciated.

Is the amp connected directly to the outs of the soundcard?

Try turning the level down on those outputs.

Delta control panel -> hardware settings. You can choose between +4, 0 and -10 dB or click 'sliders' and be a bit more precise.

The head amp is conected to the phone out of my stereo amp this amp powers my monitors.
even with this amp turned way down the problem ocours.
Also if i connect to the phone out of my desk same thing.
Have read some reviews on some US music store sites and seems i am not alone.Others have similar problems lol with this unit.
