brand new mix, with new rhythm guitar tracks, harmony guitars, completely new approach on panning and eq/track processing.
i'm experimenting. need some feedback....:D

Headin' for the Weeds

and if you think about it
the guy that leads, is headin' for the weeds
and he's got zero vision...
it's just the stuff, they're putting in his feed.

another year has gone by
it just became a faded memory
like the ones before it
til they're home, we simply will not see.

i can't remove myself, from the controversy.

how long does the aggravation
take to fade, and the men go free
from their sworn duty,
put in harm's way, for the east to see?

and if you think about it
the guy that leads, is headin' for the weeds
he's got zero vision...
it's just the stuff, they're putting in the feed.

tell me when it's going to end
tell me.... will you be my friend
tell me when it's going to end.

Cool song Gonzo,
Love the guitar work & the tone is killer!!! Listened in phones (wife's home), but it still sound great to me. Good vocals, drums, everything is great. I like this a lot!!!! Kicks ass!!!!

minerman
ALL RIGHT MINERMAN!
hehe
you got things off to a roll....

i'll tell you, i've been working hard on getting the tone down, using the attenuator and the palmer for direct recording.

i'll always dig the miced up sounds the best, but i'm real happy with the experiments so far.

in fact, if ANYTHING is wrong with my new setup, it's that i'm getting guitar tracks that are TOO focused!
LOL
you wont hear people complain about that problem too often...

but i'm still working on it, i'll keep posting, as i get better tracks..

Fishmed_Returns

thanks man!
production, yep, that's what's the hard part.
the playing's easy, it's the arrangements, and the mixes, and the effects, etc..... that stuff still all melts my brain a little.

Playing & recording is excellent.
My ONLY nit is that the song has too many riffs/ideas.
The drums keep a groove going but the guitars change what they're doing too often - almost a sampler for an album.

rayc-
thanks for checking it out!
well, "too many riffs", i've never heard that complaint before!!

hehe

i guess i'm just into givin' more bang for the buck.
riffs, man, i got millions of em!
plenty, to go around....

i've had others say 'it's the same riff over and over', so i guess everybody hears it differntly...

my whole idea with writing rock tunes, is to make them aggressive and driving, make them groove, and keep it simple, while at the same time throwing in some of my fusion rock tendencies....
it looses some people, others dig it.
but, it's just the way i've written for a long time..
i've got that keith richards influence, married with that allan holdsworth influence, i guess.

just for the guitar-geeky types:

i used a 1981 Carvin DC200 Koa, with a duncan custom custom in the bridge, for all the rhythms.....
and a custom strat with bill lawrence pickups for the solos.
also, a Carvin LB70 on the bass tracks.

this is the first thing i've recorded with the DC200K, since i put the hybrid kahler bridge on it-- which allows the floating bridge to be locked into a hardtail configuration, with only a big set screw...
this is in the "LOCKED DOWN" mode.

i can hear a slight difference in the tone, and a difference in the feel, with the bridge in the hardtail config.
not as solid as a true hardtail, but better than floating.

Totally groovy Gonzo, just the way we know it from you.
The recording is ballsy and pristine. Guitars sound amazing! Love the variations in the middle with the different moods. Great musicianship, well done!

Joey :):):):)

joeym-
hey, thanks for listening!
glad you dig it....

yeah, this song was really the experiment for trying to dial in some cool guitar tones.

but it experiments with the arrangment quite a bit as well...
seems as time goes by, i'm drifting further away from the 'standard' arrangements...
which is not to say that i ever totally got standard arrangements down solid!
LOL

recording?

What Hardware, Mixer, DAW did u use? Sounds really good.

effin' fantastic.

One flavor I crave that doesn't happen is a loud ride bell ping, on 2&4, on the big parts...my taste. There's a rythmic hole on the 2/4 just waitin' for something to fill it when you want momentum and biggerassness. This one makes my heart beat faster. Super. All around.

Whew!

thanks for checking it out...

the Hardware, it's mostly pretty simple stuff:

mic preamps: A Designs Audio MP-1, ART DPS.
mics: ADK Hamburg, AT4033, SM57.
compressor: DBX MC-6.
Custom PC, with a Maudio 192 soundcard, with digital and analog inputs.
Sonar 6 producer edition.

it's all mixed in the box.

jeffmaher-
thanks jeff...
yep, the drums are my achilles heel on this one, they're all on one stereo track, and the programming for the original buildup of it (from ACID) is toast, so i'm stuck.
