Any suggestions on a low cost yet very effective set of headphones

What purpose you are gonna use the headphones for? Tracking? Monitoring? !!!!!!!!!!!

the cheap sennheiser ones are quite good for the money, better than the behringer ones which are really crappy.

probably the best for cheap are Harvey Gerst's MoreMe phones:

They're not pretty but you get something better for your money and you also know it's going to a good cause!!

my answer still applies. the moremes are good both for tracking and for monitoring ... the sennheiser's are more 'hi-fi' i.e. enhanced bass and more leak. but they look nice, if that makes a difference to you. their main flaw is their extremely thin wire which last about a fortnight of being trampled on etc.

I've had my sony's for years, and they are my workhorse headphones--

excellent bang for the buck, great range and sensitivity

Sony mdr7506

run you about 90-100 dollars, 75-80 if you catch a good sale.

I suggest you go to www.head-fi.com it's all forums and everyone there is a bunch of headphone freaks. Any headphone q's are best answered there for sure.

:D Yo Hombre con no nombre:]

Be sure and listen to a set of Beyer 250s. [Beyer may have changed the number, I'm not sure as I got my couple pair a few centons ago.]

You would want "closed" phones if you're recording/tracking -- open phones are apt to bleed when doing vocals.

The 250s come with a 1/4 inch plug which unplugs leaving the RCA plug if you should need it.

But, the other cans mentioned are also worthwhile. I just prefer the Beyers over some "other" cans I have in the studio.

Green Hornet :D :p
