hey, way cool song - especially the intro. Great growling bass sound - was that done with a bow?

I'd like to hear things (particularly the rhythm guitars) a bit more "in your face". The guitars seem kind of off in the distance. Maybe that's what you were going for, but it seems like with this kind of tune you'd want them to have a little more punch.

but cool stuff,
Chris

Hey Sam,
I'll check this out at home. .....For now, here's a bump to the top of the page.......

...........uh, .....from the top of the page:confused: :D

Dude,

It's a cryin' shame that you missed my brilliant and cosmically altering comments on the "thread that went poof". The advice I laid down was sure to positivly change all your future music endevours........... a cryin' shame. The bright side is you no not what you have lost:rolleyes: :D

As it stands, you'll have to settle for the mundane report that I dig the tune with vox. Thought you could have done more with the back-up vox. Something trippy and mean. Pitch shift down or some shit.

Really dig on the intro and love when the git sweeps in!!!

Tiss good to get a dose of Samicide's audiomares again.

Peace,

Theron.

groucho - I used a Cello patch from a Roland Xp-30.. It was from the 'orchestral2' exp. card.. I ran it through a Blue Max compressor and a BBE Sonic Maximizer.. I think your right about the guitars, they need to be turned up.. thanks!

Guernica - in the house!

theron - ha! "audiomares," that's a good one! yeah I got lazy with the vocals.. I did this tune in 7 hours today.. except the piano outro, that was done yesterday.. No excuses. :D I was thinking about redoing the vocals.. that's what I get for taking another sick day I guess.. I have been having so many problems with this site lately.. this is my 4th attempt at trying to reply.. lets see if this one goes through..

I'll be sending word soon!

hey...this is bogus...to reply AGAIN to the song... and you got TWO threads for it somehow... but the link is gone on the other one. (ho ho!)

where is Emeric's post too?? sunday 11/16? it vanished too:mad:

anyway....I probably typed out my longest praise comments ever....!!! over 12 pages of shit.. note by note, even.

I'll be mystified...

anyway...I said something about the bass drum had snare rattle sounds in it to sound realistic...but those are gone now.(in this version)
I also commented on the the verb/ambience sound you had on this tune too.. that it is different from your other stuff... But NOooooo, it is gone now too...

I even said some comments about the cool ebow.....but I friggin forgot those comments.

I want the walking leaf back again, dammit!!!!!

low range for the cello?....dbl bass patch maybe? oh who the F cares? it's just sound, eh??

nice tune, dude.

I'll have to agree about the drums, sam! Sweet kick drum sound... snare is sitting pretty well, for samples...

The lead synth during the breaks reminds me of "Hot Butter" - "Popcorn". Playing synth/whammy pedal again? Getting hard to tell the real thing (guitar) from your synth stuff.

Kind of sounds like this thing could go 1,000 different places... all good. Since it's hard to tell what a finished version would sound like, or where you're going to take it, there's really no suggestions... other than real drums  :D (just like always... for 95% of the stuff in the clinic)

It'd be cool to hear what else you got for this.

Man this site is slow...........

................well I'm one that responded to the other thread....Great work....another Sam masterpiece...style of your own....yadda yadda yadda. :D

The vocals really make this a whole 'nother thing. It's much more evil sounding. I love the bass sound at the front end of the tune. A cello patch huh? I'm gonna try that 'cause that's one of the coolest bottom ends I ever heard.

Another great song Sam!

mixmkr - hey mix, I redid the whole thing, but I used the same drum kit.. I think I added a little more thump to the kick with some e.q., but that's it.. yeah that's a cello patch, and I ran it through the blue max comp. and the bbe sonic maximizer.. and there isn't any EBow on this one.. I just had some good sustain happening.. I used the wammy and doubled it.. I usually use my speakers like a guitar cabinet.. I turn it up pretty loud, and if I'm right in front of it, I get some good feedback and the sound is better than if I played it at a low volume.. thanks for checkin in mix!

participant - hey Chad, I'm not sure what you mean by 'hot butter' -'popcorn'.. if your talking about the breaks @26 and 1:40, that's a guitar with a wammy, and I doubled it.. I don't know what else I have for this, because I was thinking it was done.. If you have any suggestions, let me know bro.. I have been experimenting with some new drum sounds, so at least that seems a little better.. thanks for checkin' man..

Lt. Bob - "it's much more evil sounding" that's funny!:D I get that a lot from people, but strangely enough, most of these lyrics are right out of Proverbs.. I changed stuff and added other words to tie it together though.. the cello is a great sound.. I ran it through a compressor and a BBE, and it really seemed to help.. That's one of the main things I like the BBE for, low things like bass and Cello.. thanks for checking it out Steve.. I saved the ending from the original version, and I'm going to use that for something else..

hey man, that was pretty deep stuff. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I like the drum sound you got on this one, its punchy and deep. That big fat boy fiddle sounded cool. After it simmers thru the intro, it gets nice and thick with the wide guitars and bass and keys. Very interesting vocal tone setup. You do great work.

I like your style a lot, very inspiring, apparently the rock genre isn't dead!

I'd really like to hear that outro developed into a song. But then, I'm going through my piano phase right now...

Hey Sam,
......very cool man! I really dig that resonant low cello. It works really well w/ the low vocals. I agree about the drums too. Clean, simple, and effective. ....and good level on the cymbals too:D If i had to fish for a nit, It would be to cut the effects on the bg vocs. The low vocs sound really cool, and i think a cleaner bg would leave more emphasis on them, imho. Cool tune and melody man...... I like this alot!!!!

I liked the vocal sound you got here. Even with the heavy effects, they all came through and were easy to make out. I liked the synth part that came in at about :24 (the first time). A nice little part. I had to listen on small headphones, but I loved the low rumble of that cello part. Wish I could hear it on some higher end gear. Could probably make the house shake :D.

I gotta give you a slight ding on lyrics. I'd say they're so-so.

On balance though, another first class production. You have "that Sam sound" patented.

Trip...

hey man I liked this song as I like most of the stuff you post here. You've good a creative mind and like to experiment, which is always good for creating fresh sounds.

Ok after the fifth time through it I can say this...

What I liked:
The lower range guitars with the bend at the end of the riff
piano outro- very cool
The vocal effect
The more ambient keyboard
The lyrics are great

What I didn't like:
The cello sound- too Casio-ish very fake sounding and it really took away from the song for me
The fade out of the guitars was way too abrupt prior to the outro

Song, band from ... the 70's? (could be the late 60's)... their synth sound sounds like that... like that part around 1:11 thru 1:34...

I don't know what else I have for this, because I was thinking it was done

It works as is... but most of your stuff has time-signature changes, rhythm changes. I dunno... just seems like it needs something... like a injection of something  but could be I just need some of the wacky tobaccky to hear it right ;)

This is pretty killer Sam. The vox seemed to stick out a little better in this one than recent ones I've heard you do. All your tunes are so "tight" man, i never hear a fukup..ever:D . @2:42 I thought you were headed toward some kind of breakdown..(that I alway's enjoy in your tunes) but it was ending:( . Good tune man!

As I...ehem...mentioned in the other thread I think the changes in here are smoother and to me more effective than on the last tune. But I also realize you had very good artistic reasons for those transitionless changes. I just had my own little visions...that's all :) I also mentioned that I love the way your instrumentals tell a story sonically. But today is another day and this is no longer an instrumental.

harmony at 2:12 ish could come up. Vocals seem to drop back too much there. The "flute" soloat the end could be panned to the side a little IMO...mostly because the piano seems to occupy a good deal of the center. Both nitpicky comments I agree. Gotta find something otherwise I look like an ass kisser!

Any chance I could hear a version of this with less effect on the vocal? I'll bet it sounds more emotional...not that this doesn't mind you!

This is great stuff...You get a five joint rating ;)

Sami

The intro cello sounds like my buddies Harley before he got it tuned!

Mix is balanced and since this is very synth based the blend is awesome. All parts can be heard and are pretty sharp.
Did you use any computer software in the mix? I know you were messing with it and I was wondering if you found a happy medium.

Guitar is cool also..........
Your vox are exceptionally twisted in this one. I agree with Sluice on the vox at 2:12ish. The BG vox over power the main line a tad, but this is as picky as I can get.

Another Sami epic !

Thanks for sharing

Joel

Toki987 - appreciate the commentary man!

Phyl - the rock genre will never die. :) I hear ya about the piano phase.. I got into it about a year ago and before that I never bothered with it, but now I realize what I have been missing.. now if I could only learn how to play it properly! thanks..

Guernica - hey Mike, I think I'm going to redo the vocals without the wall of effects.. I got a new mic (sm58) and what did I do? Instead of trying it out clean and hearing the difference that a better mic would make, I saturated it with effects and recorded the first sound that came out.. I did this whole tune in about 7 hours from scratch, except for the outro piano.. I should have never tried to sing it after doing drums and keys and guitars.. I smoked about 4 bones during this recording, and by the time it came to do vocals, I had nothing left.. Then I had the balls to think I could mix it halfway decent! :D thanks for the feed man.. stay on me about the vocals.. I know I shouldnt be drowning them, but I feel like an addict! I cant stop with the effects, but I'll bitch to other people about saturating their vocals!

TripleM - please read Guernicas reply for some lame excuses! Yeah, when it was time to do vocals, I had the melody in my head but no lyrics.. I grabbed a bible and sang a few lines from Proverbs.. :D I changed a lot of it, and added my own stuff "some things you just can't f**k with, so just enjoy the ones your stuck with" (lyrical genius rhyming with with with) :D :p It was all loosely improvised as I recorded it.. I will probably redo the vocals, and add more harmony.. thanks for the comments Trip.. I always enjoy reading your straight up commentary..

I'll have to finish this later, I have an appointment with the man.. thanks again for the feedback guys/ girls!
