Can I sync my HD24 with Sonar via midi to transfer audio files. If so how?

Yes I have an audio card with midi.

You would need the BRC (Big Remote Controller) for the HD24 to have that capability. They are about $500 used, maybe a tad less.

Warning. The HD24 works sort of squirly with the BRC. Why? I have no idea. Just been mine, and few others around here experience using them together.

I would use the ftp function on the HD24 to transfer audio tracks to and from the computer. You only need a NIC and some Cat.5 cable with a crossover adapter cable at one end to do this. It is very reliable and bulletproof.

If you need to reference midi tracks that were create in Sonar while recording audio tracks on the HD24, export your midi tracks to audio tracks in Sonar, then transfer them to the HD24, record your other audio tracks on the HD24, then transfer them to the computer, then import them into your Sonar project. We do this at the studio all the time and it works quite well. The ftp transfers are a bit slow, but the data transferred is sample accurate, and enjoys the benefits of data reliability that ftp offers as compared to a real time transfer of audio.

As Ed said, transfering from HD24 to Sonar is easy. With the ethernet cable remember it IS slow. From my projects it has taken as long as 35 minutes per song depending on the size of the file. You can transfer a whole song at once and go do something else while your waiting..thats what I do. Im getting ready to by the Motu2408MKiii.It will speed thing up to real time transfer. It does work nice though!

Hi TrackRat, You use Sonar but have you considered ProTools? I use Sonar and it seems to be real cool! I thought about ProTools as it is the word on everyones lips that comes into my studio. But,from people I talk to the LE version is not as good as Sonar. I dont use Sonar myself, I mean I hire a guy to mix with it in my studio. I can get around in it but he is great with it. I think for the money its great! Oh, my Masterlink is crapping out on me all the time. Im taking it back to guitar center and getting a new one as well as a new HD 24. It has been giving me all sorts of problems. It has the old software 1.02. They are both 11 months old but they are going to give be both 2 new units!.... Im a good customer! GC has treated me very well I must say. My masterlink goes in hyper fast playback speed,o sounf outut meters are going and has terrible static! Damn thing!! The HD 24 wont take a hard drive at times. it says jumper failure...even though there is no jumper and it was working for weeks!! Jim

I'm actually using Cakewalk9 and regardless, I see no use in ProTools unless you need the portabilty to take your project from pro studio to pro studio and that would be the ONLY reason. I had a ProTools 001 setup at my studio running on a G4 power Mac for a year before I sold it and as far as I'm concerned, it's way over priced. Plugins are more expensive and while it's a fine system in its own right, I didn't think it sounded any better than the PC setup and ADATs I had running right next to it.

TrackRat, I believe there is a way to import a ProTools project into to Sonar isnt there??? And I agree with you with regards to ProTools, overpriced! With the little I understand about the two formats, I dont get the massive extra cost! You know people hear with there eyes. Its like a designer pare of jeans selling for 4 times wrangler! Its all in a name!
