Having trouble getting started...

I bought a Toshiba computer a couple months ago for recording purposes only but I haven't gotten all the quirks out yet. For one, it locates a new mic but for some reason on both programs I have (Coll Edit Pro and Audacity) it doesn't record. Now that I've messed with the whole thing, even my computer mic isn't working.

Any thoughts on my problem?

The first thing I'd check is to make sure sure your mic input isn't muted/disabled.

Yep. Simplest answer is often the correct when you get started recording. Make sure you've selected the correct microphone in your recording software and that the track is armed to record.

I had a simmilar problem...mics just wouldn't work, i think is was my s. card. Got a new one though. But make sure in audacity you choose the correct input/output...usually the first two options and also make sure the settings in Windows mixer are correct. (under recording options choose mic instead of line in)
