You assume I started the thread for that reason, ( you assume way to much about me, by the way) but you are wrong. I expected them, because they are just a part of this kind of thing, but I did try hard to avoid them, and even begged for people not to get started on it (god damnit, I even said "please"!!!). I even started another thread and posted the link in this one for people that felt the need to differ from the opinions of the ones listed here ("What I like"). However, some people just can't be reasoned with, and can not resist the arguement. Guess it was an unrealistic hope that it could be avoided.:(
And you could have answered the question without the personal attack on me. BTW, you were not trying to correct a lie, you took offense to another opinion on what they thought sucked and fired back at it. It was an opinion, not a lie.
Anyway, whatever....I grow tired of it.

someone said he had no talent. BULLSHIT! You may not like him, and think he's too much "meedley-weedley-sweepey" (I think so too for 60%, the other 30%=Richie Blackmore and the last 10% is great tone and vibrato), but playing stuff like he does REQUIRES talent!!! PEriod. No discussion. :mad:

but sweep-picking solidly at 200bpm requires goddamn talent, skill, determination and practice, o.k.?

Like I said, you may not like it (I can fully understand, it's not the most musical approach to a good guitar-solo), but not everyone can pull it off.

There is IMO still a (huge) difference between that personal 'attack' with even a light-headed remark in it (antfarm) and starting to call people names.

And yes, you're entitled to your opinion that Yngwie sucks.

hah, you could take every bands greatest song mentioned in the this thread, combine them, and it still wouldnt equal the musical brilliance of just the underying vocal tracks of brian wilson's "wouldnt it be nice". and thats only one part of one song.
 
speeddemon: my reference to malmsteen being a talentless hack is based solely on my idea of what talent is. i think talent is being able to take many small parts and build it into a greater whole. i truly think that anyone can sit down and do scale/finger exercises and, in a matter of time, do what malmsteen does. all that says to me is that he has a tremendous work ethic, which i applaud, but not raw talent, per se. again, all based on my view of what talent is. i happen to think springsteen rules, but you might call him a hack. that's cool, as long as we don't have to take any extended road trips together, i think i can be okay with that. :D

oh yea, "i just wasn't made for these times" is an awesome song...but that's a different thread.....

I see where you're coming from, but if you listen to the non-sweepey meedley weeh weeh weeiuuh-stuff from Yngwie, you'll notice he is quite musical (although heavily borroughing (sp?!) from Richie Blackmore) and has awesome tone and vibrato... the slow-kind of vibrato, which is way harder to master than the fast vibrato's that a lof of 80's metal-hacks used (note that I like 80's metal. Ask Gidge and Lopp. ;) )

But his lyric-skills are among the worst ever ("I am a Viking..." :eek: )

I think Yngwie would benefit from a strap-on assfucking by Yoko Ono... maybe she'll hop in some left-over Lennon-ideas, which can help Yngwie write better songs... :rolleyes:

I never got into the Stones...never. Had to play tons of their songs in a cover band for years...but they BORE me!!! So, to answer your thread Q...I hate them!!!

(Watts and Wyman are REALLY boring to me):D

i have to agree. they were good in concert when i got a free ticket but im not a fan. i always HATED the was Watts misses out the hi-hat beat when he hits the snare.
Always looked like he just learned to play immediately prior to the gig!

HAHAHA...Ramones were overrated mate...always. They can be fun or sell tons, but I cannot stand people saying: "Johnny is a great guitar player" and crap like that... All the songs sound THE SAME...
(and don't get me wrong, I do not dislike 'em...just think they got too big for what they were)
