I have been looking at different hard disk digital recorders and have noticed "Zoom" brand ones in various places. It looks like they packed a decent amount of features in these for less money than other top brands like ROland etc..

I was just wondering if anyone had ever used this brand and if they are any good? THanks.

:-)

I didn't know that Zoom made any hard disk recorders. There is a Zoom PalmTop Studio but that records to one of those SmartMedia memory cards and is very limited compared to any hard-disk recorders. Do you know the model numbers of what you're talking about?

Oh, that's right, that thing apppeared on the market pretty recently, I forgot about it... I think that's the only Zoom hard-disk recorder, though. A look at their website seems to verify that. Here's the other thing I was talking about earlier:

I actually have one of those, I won it in a contest from Home Recording magazine...

On the face of it it looks like a pretty good product. The price seems competitive with other recorders on the market from Korg, Yamaha, Roland, Boss, Fostex...

Yo Huge Axtec:

According to some stuff on this site, the unit you mention, Zoom, whatever, doesn't perform as its BIG ad in EM said it could perform.

Many glitches from what I've read.

Suggest you look at the Yam 2816, which I own, or, as an entry level, the Yam MD8, or go big and choose your own destiny.

There is a big learning curve unless you are very gifted. If so, buy anything that is more than 4 tracks and is digital and makes you happy when you hear the playback.

The first playback on my 2816 by Yam boggled my mind -- clear and clean and wonderful.
