has anyone tried Ardour?

I'm currently a Sonar user, however, I was wonder if anyone here has tried Ardour, the free Linux platform based software developed by an open source community?

I'm intrigued by the fact that it's free, though it's currently still in beta, and am wondering how it compares to the majors (cakewalk, cubase, protools, etc).

I used PlanetCCRMA to set up a linux box as a DAW a few weeks ago, and have been playing with Ardour since then. I am very impressed with the overall quality of the product. It is designed to compete with ProTools, Mackie, etc. OTOH, it is still in beta. Installing and using Ardour is not an undertaking for the faint-hearted. But if you have a techno-geek handy (or are one), you can have a major blast with it.

The OSX port, however, is a real simple install, along with the JackOSX server. The steepest learning curve there, is with configuring ins and outs, and learning the software itself.

Highly recommend that right there.

Hey, NeoMagick-

Any chance you could post a link to a good source for the OSX ports? I looked around a bit a couple months ago and couldn't find anything solid. Maybe I just wasn't looking hard enough.
