Has anyone compared a TS9 to a TS9DX?

I've been thinking of getting an Ibanez TS9 to use for recording. My DigiTech RP-10's distortion is a little harsh... Has anyone compared the classic TS9 to the new TS9DX? I'm looking for something that can give me SRV distortion to Metallica distortion and everything inbetween. Should I just stick with the classic TS9? Thanks!

I currently own and use an Ibanez TS9 and have played with the TS9DX also. The original TS9 offers a much broader array of overdrive tones. It also has a much more natural harsh sound that seems to cut through as opposed to being muffled. I play through a '69 Twin Reverb and when I want a "Stevie Ray Vaughn" type of tone, I turn the pre-amp down to about 3 or 4 and turn the mains all the way up, for a heavier distortion, I crank the pre-amp and use the main simply for volume purposes, it's very versitile. Of course though, the amp you use makes all the difference in good overdrive.

Dingleberry, I got your email. Thanks for posting it here too. I'm thinking of using the TS9 for recording only, which I do through a tube emulation DI box (no mic'ing amps..) The distortion that I currently use is good for "live" playing but doesnt sound right for recording. Do you think the TS9 will still work good for this situation? Thanks for your input!
