Cyan, can you explain what these clips are? thanks.

Ok here's the scoop on abes from an email I just received:

"The mxlv67 is the green one with the gold screen.
The shock mount is the standard Marshall
shock mount that sells with the V67. There is no other shock mount that I know of, the statement that you are referring to is incorrect. The "premium shipping" is for a UPS second day air."

Pretty much seals it for me. One person I know of has ordered from abes and was happy enough. That's enough to put this deal at the top of my list.

hi ammeth,

those clips are of the v67g going into the cheapest preamp I could find. One was eqd, the other was not.

I played some reference homerecorded stuff to a friend of mine.He liked the one that was recorded on a 4033 the best, but when He heard the flat mp3, he had second thoughts. He had to listen to both over and over. I think he ended up preferring the v67, if only for the price advantage

Well, I have to be honest.

I thought that the flat clip had a lot of body, and sounded better than anything I'm about to achieve right now. However, it didn't have much presence and was kind of dull and flat. Not a lot of subtle nuances when I compare it to other male vocal sounds that I like. (not refering to the actual singing, the singing was cool)

Then the EQ'd clip had more of what I thought the flat clip was missing, but sounded really grainy. I'm not sure how you EQ'd or what EQ you used of course.

Lots of factors involved here. Your voice is a lot different than mine. I'm not sure what you actually record on? Also, I'm not familiar with the dmp2. Then there's the issue of mic placement and blah blah.

Cyan, I think you mentioned that you liked the V67 better than the 414...what would you think of recording a similar clip with the 414 for reference. Or, better yet, if you still have access to the 4033 I wouldn't mind hearing it (couldn't tell if you meant that you actually owned the 4033 or what)

Thanks very much for your input!

I'll ease your mind slack,

I was recording at 1 inch away from the mic. I was going for a vintage sound.

I do prefer it as a lead vocal mic over the 414. I will put up a comparison. If its not up by eight tonight, It will be up tommorrow

THe 4033 in question was shaketheclown's song.

I think that second clip was grainy cos my head was all messed up while recording it.

I will use my joemeek this time since its more expensive.

peace

Well, to be honest I like the 414 better in this context. It just plain sounds more realistic.

However, I do like the V67 clip much better this time.

Too late to look back anyhow, I placed my order for the green one at abemusic.com about 20 minutes ago!

Thanks very much cyan, very cool of you to do this. I wish people did more comparisons like this.

you're welcome slackmaster2k,

I prefer the c414 b in this context too, but here are the reasons.

I would have liked to mic the v67 closer, but I had to do it at the same distance for fairness.

The v67 is hotter than the v414, so I had to bring the fader down -.06 to make it match the c414.

Also, these are basically uneqd versions. THe reason I prefer the v67 is that when I mic close, It has a warmth that I can eq around. I cant eq to get that warmth with the c414.

Congrats on your purchase. Even without eq, they sound enough alike to justify the purchase.

Now if I can just get my hands on a rode ntk or the new c1
