hi all, first post here, been reading heaps, learning and also getting more confused than i was i think??!!
could someone clear up this topic for me cos i am now a bit confused.
firstly i haven't a interface yet, (thats why i'm here reading up on things before making a decision, i do have a yamaha 24/14 mixer that i plan to use), i've come across h/ware monitoring as a feature in most firewire interfaces and have the following questions.
Is this purely for outsourcing the stereo track to good outboard gear like monitors??
Does it help reduce latency times by not taxing computer resources??
The overdub part of the question comes in cos i was reading somewhere that it may be hard to hear yourself clearly over the rest of the track as it plays back.
Is this why better quality gear has as many outs as it does ins??
Is it preferable to buy an interface with at least 4 outputs so i can send the currently recorded track to a differnt input on my mixer so i can boost it and drop the backing track on another channel down in volume but still send it to one set of monitors/headphones??
I hope this isn't too long. If it has been covered before or you know of a site explaining this more clearly please let me know. couldn't find anything too specific though.
thanks all
