Explicit language and what not. You are forewarned! :)

This is one of the songs that will be on the compilation CD me and the club I work at are producing.

Most of you know the story that while I tracked this stuff live, I did not get the benefit of a soundcheck or get to check the sound going to tape, or get to move microphones around. I threw mics in front of everything and let er' rip!!!

This is about a 2 hours mix. Not perfect, and I could name several things I would like to work out before a final, but the agreement was 2 hours per mix, and I am keeping to it!

7.59MB 192kbs MP3 file. Sorry about the size. I don't WRITE these long songs, just record and mix them....;)

Enjoy you hardcore fans!

Damn fine mix , Ed....

As you know, the only thing i would have done different was to use that plugin that keeps the vocalist from sounding like he's sucking a sm58;) off.....

Did he say the "f: word....ohhhhh......

I like the sound in general. I like the guitars a lot.

And Gidge... you thought it sounded like he was sucking off the sm58? I thought he was throwing it up. :P

The mix sounds good. Nice work with the resources you had to work with Ed...

This is kinda cool. They've got a cool sound...although it would help if this was a cool song. Probably really fun live though.

I have no idea how it is to mix live...nor am I going to advise you on how to mix because obviously we're not in the same league...but I will tell you what I'd like to hear.

I think this needs more low end guitar, and I think that the lower frequencies of the guitar should kind of muck in with the bass to create a big sound...then maybe add some definition to the bass. Kind of the way Korn does it. Of course that all depends on the band's actual sound and the limitations of recording live. My point is simply that this is hardcore music with a not-so-hardcore sound. It sounds about has heavy as alice in chains, but the music itself wants to be a lot beefier.

Man I bet it was hard to deal with that singer! Somebody needs a nap! :)

Top notch sounding recording though all around. As good as the other ones you've been posting IMHO. Enjoyed it very much!

I'm gonna disagree with you slackmaster (but maybe I shouldn't....I am listening through headphones), but I think that the song needs more bass than anything, and the low end guitar is fine. If anything the guitar "might" benefit from a little mids, but the style of music would tend to not do that. The vocals are mixed fine, but good God, this band sucks a donkey's....well, something. I know I'd stick around to hear a band that screams "f--- you all". :) Yea, the bass drum is present, which is tasty for this music style. The snare drum is unique. It sounds like a delay (possibly the live setting) is on it. Cool man. yea, but unless these headphones are limiting the bass, we definitely could use some more low end bass. Good mix overall, and a DAMN good mix for the crap music you were given.

Peace, love, and chicken,
Mike

I agree... a little "too" hardcore for me... mix sounded pretty good though especially for a live recording

Meshuggah's gonna jizz on this one, I guarantee it. :D

I'd love to shake that drummer's hand... he definitely has skill at whacking shit in well-defined patterns. I agree with mikemoritz, that snare is pretty cool.

I hate the song, although hearing "F*&K YOU ALL!" is pretty interesting. What's even better? "I WANT TO F*&K EVERYTHING!"

Something I WOULDN'T want to see, but might be attempted by this band on some hazed-out evening, is dude whacking himself off on the drums. "I WANT TO F*&K EVERYTHING! BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM..."

:D

I remember that the singer spent a lot of time on the floor! I suppose he was f*cking the floor too! ;)

While the song itself is not terribly interesting, the band I thought had a great "vibe". Live, they are a kick in the pants to watch. There was a lot of energy in their show.

I will relate some of the things I told Slack in a chat we had earlier tonight about his "crituques" on the sound.

The bass part was simply messed up! I didn't want to mix it back like this, but I had little choice if I wanted to song to sound okay. I compressed the hell out of it, yet, you can still hear him sort of coming in and out. He also just killed the strings. I had to cut out a lot of high end garbage (no, it didn't sound like the stuff the bass player in Korn gets....:(), and the lows were off the map. Plus he just plucked to hard in most parts. He really wasn't all that tight compared to how tight the drummer and guitar player were to each other.

I always say, downplay the bad, turn up the good while mixing....:)

I don't think the guitar NEEDS any more low end. If you seen how much low end I took off the guitar you would understand. Adding any more would have took the distinction out of the sound. Trust me, I tried.....:(.

I think the drummer rocked though! I don't like his kick drum sound at all, and had to eq the hell out of it too, but overall, his stuff sounded decent, and I think he really drives the band well. Of all these youngs bands that come in to play at the club, he is probably the closest to "big time" in his playing.

So am I the only one that actually liked the song, or what? :) Singer sounds like a cross between deftones / spineshank / something else I can't think of...The recording sounds really good from here, but right now my speakers are behind me on the floor facing the other way, so take that for what it's worth :)
