You have to set up the filters and the threshold. I trigger metal performances every day. I don't have many problems, ever.

^ What he said. ;)

As long as you realize that there is a rather large group of musicians who still use it with its original meaning.
Using your definition of double bass, I would like to see/hear some 'hardcore double bass'.

Yeah that helped some, but I still didnt get results that I liked. Maybe it was the drummer that I was working with. Some of his fast double bass was played a little softer than his solid single hits...so there was a sizable gap between threshold peaks...once I set the threshold lower to capture all of his hits, a few loud snare hits would bleed in ect.

Drumagog just seemed a little sloppy still - the hits didnt sound like hard aggressive metal drumming...maybe the demo kick sound wasnt all that great and some more work/tweaking could have gotten better results, but this was my experience.

If you have dynamic tracking on, the volume of the samples will follow the volume of the source track. If you want to trigger the hard samples, you got to feed it a loud track. Or adjust or simply turn off the dynamic tracking and adjust the threshold on the hardest hits.

What he said. The loudest, hardest, most agressive sounding kicks trigger at -6. (unless you change it) If you aren't getting that hot, you are triggering weaker hits. It's easy to change with the latest version of drumagog. It lets you see which velocity layer is being triggered and lets you rearrange the levels that each layer is triggered. This will get rid of that problem.
