Hard rock song - looking for feedback

The drum tones sound great but I can't get over the robotic sound. It feels like theyre exactly to grid and all the same velocity samples. The same velocity samples make those snare rolls sound very fake to me.

I think the whole mix at this point would sound much better if the vocals sat on top. They sort of just blend in with the midrange. Maybe even just making them louder in the mix would help with some more high mids to bring them out more. I like the guitar sound a lot, very saosin if you're familiar.

Yeah, thanks for the feedback. It's actually a midi track, I don't have a drummer. Then I used Steven Slate drum samples and basically went with all of the hardest hits, since I didn't feel that there were enough variations in dynamics to warrant using anything but the most percussive samples. But now that you mention it, I might go back and add some of the other samples in to drumagog, just to make those rolls sound a little smoother.

As far as the vocals are concerned, There is too much reverb trapped in the original recordings and if I put them too far out in front, they just don't sit right. That, and I'm not that confident of a singer and don't like to hear my vocals in front of everything (I can hear all the cracks and quakes and missed pitches). I kinda like them a little bit subdued since they seem more like another instrument, as opposed to it being "all" about the vocals.

again, thanks for listening and I appreciate the feedback.

If it's an inferiority issue, shut up. You sound great in there. The singing sounds GOOD. I would want to push that further upfront. The singing is on par if not better than the instrumentation to me.

And as for the samples. You can use the same hits but making them different velocitys and making them less perfectly quantized can go a long ways in making fake drums feel more authentic. The samples sound GREAT for this but the playing is what doesnt sound right for me.

Good luck, you're doing well.

Sweet, I'm reprogramming the midi track as we speak, hopefully that, and some slight tweaks on the dynamics setting on drumagog will help with the rolls.

And thanks for the confidence boost haha. I guess I still haven't gotten past the phase of "OMG that's how my voice really sounds?!?!?!" I just know that I love singing, I've done it ever since I was a kid and I have no one else to do it for me, so I figure I might as well get as good at it as I can, especially if I'm trying to produce something of a demo or EP. I guess the perfectionist in me would say that it lags behind my other musical skills, but I am definitely aware im just being hyper-critical.

Again, thanks for the feedback and thanks for listening, I'll upload a new version soon.

It sounds better! I still think that maybe a little wider q on the 1.5 to 3k range to bring up more surrounding freq. a shade more would help. It os a good improvement though and you have to be carefull in that range because it is a very harsh range and too much isd not good either. I cranked it up though in you are in no danger. just watch out for boosting too narrow of a range because it can make things sound un-natural.

I totaly agree with Erockrazor, the vocals sound really good. Bring them up.

PS on the 300 boost. I would handle that on the track level my self. Boosting on the main can create allot of mud in vocals, etc. Pick what needs it and add it there as a general rule. Some things won't take it. There's allways exceptions to the rule though.

Doing great!
