when buying a 7200rpm hard drive, how important is the 2mb or 8mb cache size. is there a big difference in performance???

I have a 120GB Western Digital Cavier drive (7200) with the 8MB cache

and really, I don't think there's that much noticable improvement from a 2MB cache drive to warrant the extra expense of the drive.

IMO it could make a difference between running 50 audio tracks and 52... I think it's mostly voodoo that surrounds the 8Mb harddisks.

Probably the biggest advantage is that 8MB drives have 3 years warranty and 2 MB drives only 1.

(In europe the 2 MB drives have an extended consumer warranty of 2 years after purchase date, because of EU laws)
