I am just getting started at doing some hard disk home recordings using my iMac (600MHz, 40 Gigs, 512 Ram) and Pro Tools Light (free edition). I have a little Mackie 1402 and some decent microphones. I am not really concerned with making a masterpiece -- just composing and laying out ideas for possible use later... if I get lucky, great. Mostly I am doing acoustic stuff and want to do overdubs... etc.
I am currently sending the mic into the Mackie >> main out to the mini jack on the iMac >> arriving in Pro Tools.
When I track my first track I monitor the performance using the Mackie's headphone jack.
Now my question:
How do I overdub?
I can capture a track of audio into the computer no problem. But when I try to play it back and multi-track/overdub I end up with this very slight delay... I guess it is called latency... not sure.
Is there a way to route this stuff and/or pick a monitoring scheme that overcomes this delay? I'm kinda stumped.
Thanks.
Brett
