Hi everyone,

I've had this problem a number of times before and always found a fix. Recently my OS installed XP SP3 and since then, again Cool Edit Pro 2.0 will not read audio from a CD, either using Open or Extract.

I was always able to find solutions online but this time I'm not able to locate the same links and what I have found doesn't work.

I did download and install an ASPI driver but that didn't make a difference.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

BTW, I also downloaded and installed Limewire last night so it was either SP3 or Limewire that caused the problem.

Thanks

Just to humor me, try this....(if I've infact understood your situation correctly?)
When you have 'ripped' the audio from the CD, flick to edit view...do you see anything now?
I mean, do you see CEP ripping the cd then come up with a blank screen on CD view?
Does your CD unit do anything at all when you import/extract from?

If I'm off the track, is your cd unit ok?..can you see/play anything from it?

I've noticed this issue before. Some CEP files don't want to play nice in the beginning, but a reinstallation can help.

Uninstall CEP. Before you reinstall it, go to C:/Program Files and delete the Cool Edit folder. Reinstall CEP and it may fix the problem.

When I choose to open a CD track (or extract audio from CD), the read progress dialog appears for a second and then the waveform view shows an "empty" waveform (straight green line). Basically, it did not even spin up the CD drive to read the CD but somehow thinks it did.

The CD drive works just fine to play the tracks in Windows Media Player.

Previously I had found explicit instructions (Google search) on how to remedy this but this time I cannot find as much information by searching.

BTW, I did uninstall and then reinstall CEP and it didn't correct the problem. Previously, installing an Adaptec ASPI driver had fixed it but not this time.

Thanks

try WMP to rip the track to your music folder, then try to import the track....I have had problems in the past with getting tracks to open directly from CD to CEP....

I realize that that is an option but I was hoping to be able to do it in one step from CEP. There has to be a fix somewhere. I've been doing it the "right" way for many years and there was always a fix for it when this happened.

you are right....theres got to be a way to do it....it has rarely happened to me....but I do recall it happening...

It has something to do with file WNASPI32.DLL
It's located in Windows/System32 folder.

I don't remember if you need to download it to this particular folder or just remove it if the file is already there.

I was Cool Edit user and this problem occurred when I first time switched to windows XP .

I tried several more methods that I read online and nothing worked, so I uninstalled CEP and installed Adobe Audition 1.0 which I also had a copy of. Now everything works fine.

Strangely, on my work computer, I never had this problem. Even after SP3 was installed. With my home computer, I had the problem when I bought it and installed CEP, when I wiped it clean and installed XP pro, and now after SP3.....weird stuff...

Also, the read speed at home is very slow (maybe 4X) and the read speed at work is much faster. It has always been this way and my work computer is 5 years older than my home computer. I believe I did start a thread here quite a while back about this problem but nobody had an answer.

Thanks for your replies.
