What is the best way to attach things to walls and or ceilings? I have a double stud construction room with 2 layers of interior sheetrock. The 2nd layer of sheetrock is attached to the first using laminating screws, so the 2nd layer of sheetrock does not have direct contact with the studs (same goes for the ceiling).

If I want to hang lights or speakers or baffles from the walls or ceilings, what is the best way to attach them without compromising the separation of the layers of sheetrock? Attach to studs? Use butterfly bolts or molly screws in between studs?

Thanks,

Craig

CPL,

be very nervous.

Laminating screws are NOT made to support drywall on a ceiling.

If you do not get that ceiling properly supported it will eventually wind up on the floor (at best) someone's head (at worse).

Even if you used adhesive for the sheets - eventually you will have a failure.

So you had better think seriously about getting that drywall attached to structure.

In general - if you check with the manufacturer's of the laminating screws - they are listed as a "temporary screw"..... they aren't meant to carry any load at all.

I hope you take this as seriously as I mean to protray it.... because it really is that serious.
