Handheld condenser for live vocals - Any bargains out there?

Just wanted to confirm the Shure Beta 57 definitely was an enhancement
over the 'ol sm57 on my voice-great bang for the buck!
I think the normal street price is about $140 though.

If you found that the MXL1000 with the ball off, but with a windscreen can function pretty well as a handheld condeser, is there any reason why a foam windscreen on a 603 wouldn't yeald the same results? Isn't it basically the same mic?

I beleive 8th Street has a very good deal on the CAD 95 right now. $79.95. That's the price of a 57 for crying out loud.

Never tried one myself but from what I'm told it's a very clean, clear sounding mic.
