Fresh out of the oven, this is a wierd little tune featuring the "sampletron". I really love the retro sounds of this thing. The tune should have vocals eventually, for now it's an instrumental. I was falling asleep trying to get a mix so let me know what needs polishing. Song is called "Smoovy", thanks for anyone brave enough to listen.

Very cool sir. I love the time signature. I see this is still work in progress so I won't critique the mix. The "mellotron" is very cool. Sounds like real drums. Please tell me they are.

Thanks for listening Track Rat-I believe it is 7/8 time, I came up with this by jamming with the drum loop, eventually playing the part myself. They are not real drums though, a cheap yamaha midi kit to addictive drums, i also quantize and mess with the velocities after so it is a hybrid approach I guess. There's 5 tracks of mellotron in there with vibes, organ and string sounds.

I just did a remix-this is straight out of pro tools, no mastering or anything on the master channel. Raised levels on everything (the fader falling disease was setting in) Upped the bass-changed the kick drum, lowered the keys during the "chorus".

The 'tron string & flute samples are destinctive aren't they? On your track they mostly remind me of led Zep's Houses of the Holy album. THe 'tron strings have a slight "backward" feel to me that makes them even more distinctive.
I've been fiddling with samples of 'tron I downloaded from somewhere but I've been cutting & pasting the samples into Reaper & CWProAudio.
Cool track & the hybrid drums work pretty well to my ears.
Good bass definition.
Guitars work well.
This'll sound ace with a vocal melody. I'm looking forward to hearing this develop.
 
I thought the mellotron was that accordion-sounding thing you play with your mouth? I'm not hearing anything like that here.
 
At first i was like, this sounds different. And i counted the beats and i was like, 7/8? Cool!

Wow factor = 9 :D

Drums are too repetitive, add something to give more life to them.

catchy little tune..Id agree the drums could do with an extra part or maybe the introduction of another percussion part...as soon as the mellatron strings etc hit its instant psychedelia...great sound


do you have an idea where this is headed? instrumental or vocals?

Thanks Ray,VHS, andre and Kcearl for taking your time to listen, you are right about the drums I was daring myself to open the high hat but chickened out...haha. I'm not a drummer so I was glad to get through the recording without any major flubs. I will have to spruce up the drums.

I would like this to have vocals but since I don't sing I imagine this might be it for this little tune. We'll see.
