hagstrom swede

im thinkin about getting a hagstrom swede. im not to crazy about the coil split. is it possible to just like either cut the wire from the coil split or just bypass it somehow and just get the regular tone from the humbuckers without effecting anything else on the guitar besides the fact that the coil tap would now be disabled? sorry if thats a little confusing, haha hopefully you guys understand what im trying to say.:D
 
Sure it's possible to disable it, but I'm just wondering why?

Why not just not use it?
 
i kinda just want to just cause its not really that neccessary for me. i will be using mainly the bridge pick up and on occassion the neck. lookin for the les paulish sound at a fraction of the price. i jsut dont really see the need for the coil split. i have a tele that i put a humbucker in and that has a coil split, so i could really be needed it on this. it seems more of a nuisance then a novelty? i dont know. plus when i played it i didnt really like the way it sounded, the almost stuck wah sterile kind of sound. and in the other position it didnt make that much of a difference in tone, so i kinda just want to get it out of the way. also when i play live, im always moving alot and going crazy, and thats just one more switch that could accidently be flipped altering my sound when i wouldnt want to you know what im saying? i was just wondering if i like just cut that cable or get it taken out or something if it would effect anything, or if it could just be bypassed and i could just get the normal sound out of it
 
There should be no difference in the sound of the guitar if you disable the feature or not. When both coils are active, they are active. It will not make a bit of difference if you remove the switch and hard-wire it. You'll just spend time and energy doing something that won't change the sound, at all. You'll get just as "normal" of a sound if you don't do a thing. Make sense?

I would leave it as is, you might play a style of music now that doesn't require variety in your tones, but in the future you may need the coil splitting option. You might also consider rewiring the switch to change the humbucker to a series/parallel split, series is louder and fuller and makes a great tone for lead soloing.
As for myself, I think the classic Les Paul tone is combining the neck and bridge pickup in the middle selector position with the neck maybe 1/3rd to 1/2 way on volume and the bridge wide open-my favorite for a 2 humbucker guitar!
 
It's pretty easy to hardwire it. I would leave the switch where it is so you don't end up with a hole in the guitar. You will also be able to wire the switch back up when you sell it.

It's not as easy as cutting the wire. If you don't have any experience wiring guitars, take it to a shop. It's very easy and quick and shouldn't cost much.
