...with that RCA77DX.
Tried recording, well, what else, Grand Piano.;)
It seems like I really have to cut the bass frequencies on it other wise, I get a painful "thump" on the bass notes. When I cut the bass, it lacks definition, and the highs end up sounding kind of "tin-ny." I tried using it in Bi-Polar (i.e. Fig. 8) mode with the bottom attenuator set to V1, and the mic set at the bend in the grand, about 12" above the rim. Then I tried moving the mic inside, about 18" above the harp, with the same, less than desireable results. I'm lost! I don't know how to use this mic, in this application. Does anyone have ANY suggestions?

Distance is the key to using an RCA 77DX. Try it about 4 to 6' away, set flat, in figure 8 mode. Piano lid up. In a good room, the sound should be gorgeous.

Thanks Harvey, I'll try that out today!
This thing needs a LOT of gain? Yes?
(my room is fairly dead. high ceilings, carpeted floors, aurelux foam on the walls.)
Here's a pic:

In that case, I'd ask for the 4033, the AKG C1000S, AND $300.

I'll give you a 4033 with shock mount, $150, and a shure sm57 and a iomega zip drive

Well, maybe I'll just keep it.
They make nice lamps:

But...isn't it harmful for the ribbon to stick a light bulb in the mic like that?!

:D

I believe I saw one of those RCA's (non lighted version) at the Tempe, AZ Guitar Center if anyone is interested.
