Im a guitarist, but this is definately a question for MIDI experts. I have a Lexicon MPX110 and a Boss GT-3 multi effects processor(which can act as a MIDI controller). I am trying to connect the 2 via MIDI to control the MPX 110 from a foot source (the GT-3). I have executed a MIDI dump, and the units were communicating somewhat, but I can tell somethings not right. I could use some help from anyone familiar with the units, or general MIDI info. Was also wondering if something like the Digital Music Corp. Ground Control would be a better bet than the GT-3... any info would help greatly.
I have the older brother (sister?) of the MPX 110, the MPX 100. I've never tried it as a guitar processor, but I suppose there could be worse things...
In general, just set the two to the same midi channel and you should be able to send 'contintous controllers' to the MPX which will alter the sounds. But, since I can't imagine that the Boss unit has any type of 'local off' any changes you make to the MPX will also affect the Boss.
My recommendation, should you decide to pursue this, is this Behringer foot controller.
I was able to access the 16 pre programmed USER patches from the MPX 110 and select them using the GT-3, but I'm still not sure how to access all of the available effects and modify them...do you think that Behringer unit, or something like it, would be better suited for what I am looking to do? The GT-3 is built for numerous procedures, possibly a unit such as the Behringer would be much less hassle?
You need to read this stuff and get familiar with the ins and outs of midi in a basic way because if you do get that Behringer unit it will need to be programmed to communicate with the MPX. But along the way you'll add something to your knowledge base and lose your fear of midi...
