Guitar with a fast Neck

Which guitars do you guys think would be best for very fast playing.

I have a Fender Strat Deluxe, and a Gibson Les Paul. The Fender seems to have a bigger neck then the LesPaul. The Les Paul has a smaller neck and easier to play. Both great sounding guitars.

But, I was looking into something that had a faster style neck. Any suggestions?
 
The fastest guitars I've played all had really flat frets and wide flat necks. But, you'll lose some of your abilty to bend strings with flater frets.
 
I have a '71 Telecaster with the frets all but worn to the fingerboard. This is the about the fastest neck I've ever played. They're almost too low though and in needs a fret job but the thing is set up so perfectly right now I'm afraid to touch it. It's like a wise man taught me many years ago, "If you have a hard on and want to keep it, don't fuck with it".
 
i play a fender strat, but when I go over to my friends house I play with his PRS. Very expensive and very nice. I can play some crazy stuff on the PRS and it feels much easier then when I play with the strat.
 
Ibanez RGs,all the speed pickers played 'em back in the 90s.Not the cheap ones, they have a differant neck.
 
I don't like th look of Gibson SG's but they have the fastest necks I've played on.
 
i second the Carvin vote......

fastest neck i've ever played.

it's so subjective.

it's really only relevent to your hand, your touch, how you feel things.....

yngwie likes scalloped fender necks, so you could say that's the fastest.....

steve vai likes the wizard necks, can't say he isn't fast.....

what about al dimeola on les pauls?

what about john goodsall on standard strats?

how about holdsworth on carvins?

hell, i can play real fast on a danelectro.

what's it all mean?

I have a Samick Ultramatic UM-4.

It's the fastest and smoothest neck I've ever had my hands on in 27 years of guitar playing.

It's like butta, baby! ;)
 
I guess it depends on how big your hands are.

I don't have the biggest hands, but people with big hands tend not to play as fast.

I guess I will have to try different guitars.

To me Strats don't play as fast.

Les Pauls are a little faster.

Maybe the Ibanez wizard neck is good for me.


Does anyone know how the wizard necks compare to the Strat or les Paul necks?
 
do yourself a favor......

this weekend, go to your nearest music store, and play everything on the wall.

that's really the only way you're ever, EVER going to figure out what you like.

take anyone elses word for anything, that is so personal and subjective.

The Wolfgang is has speedy little neck. My PRS is nice also. I've played the Ibanez and liked it, A teacher I once had, had a scalloped neck, forgot the guitar, maybe a Dean. I liked it alot but I couldn't do it to my guitars.

The wizard necks are thin,slightly wider and fairly flat,(20") radius I think.Scale length is 25 1/2" , same as the Strat.Les Pauls are 24 3/4".As mentioned before the best thing to do is hit the stores and try 'em out.To a degree it's a subjective thing.Most people that have tried my Ibanez really like it.The cheaper RGs have the wizard ll neck which isn't the same.

100% myth. There is no such thing as a "fast neck". It's a complete myth. Any guitar is just as good for faster playing.

All frets are identical widths on all guitars - and neck size doesn't matter because no one wraps their hand around the neck when playing lead.

I am a professional guitar player, and can play just as fast on any guitar, weather it be acoustic or electric.

The only way you'll play fast is practice 8 hours a day.

Crystal, I disagree.

I've been playing for 25 years.

And I've picked up some guitars and because of the neck being skinnier, or thinner they where easier to play. So, in turn I could move all over the neck quicker.

Probably because my hands are big, but my fingers are medium not long.
 
i disagree also.....i'm pretty sure fret sizes vary.



also....are you a studio or live musician? who do you play with?
