ive decided to post this here. what id like to do is have a online guitar war, where participants can record a instrumental and send a link and members can vote on it and see which song is better. there is a site that does this but it is a pay site and it cost money and there is no reason we cant do this ourselves for no cost. it will be a good way to converse with other musicians and learn some new tricks and ways to improve if anyone is interested in doing this just say im in and we will set it up. we can match people against others and maybe even build our own website for this if anyone is interested. please let me know. thanks and god bless. tim pate

What's the prize? I don't think the good guitar players are going to give up their best riffs for free.

well this will be a free contest, just for fun, not to say that i am better than anyone or anything like that, its all about learning and colaberating with other musicians that have similar interests. if you guys wanna have a prize then heres what itll have to be. we will have to have it where everyone pays to enter a song and then there is a so called purse of money for the winner, but if you wanna do it that way then just go to guitar war online because that is how they do it. this just seems like a fun way to learn and share musical talents to me. thanks for your interest.

Sounds interesting. I don't know how many here are willing to participate. However, I also don't think a prize is necessary.

I've browsed GuitarWar.com before. There are some excellent players there.

you could always put together a mp3 and post it in the Clinic.......it doesnt have to be a competition......competitions would draw in the less than desireables into our community......

gidge no offense but what do you mean by less than desirables. i realy appreciate your input and i dont mean any pun towards you im just not sure what you mean by this. i pretty much thought this site was for all and that we came here to gain knowledge not to judge people that we have never met in our lives. like i said i hope you dont take this response the wrong way because by no means am i flaming you in any way. i dont judge people and i would expect the same from them is all. i just thought that this would be a great way to gain more from this site for all of us is all. and again i thank you for your response, but so far from the responses recieved i guess no one is interested in learning through this method. god bless all and thanks for the few whom responded. tim pate

cnat say that i have seen any of reefers post, who is reefer? never heard of him.

Oh.....well, reefer lives in the cave. Right where he belongs.

Cool idea. riffs are fair game as far as I'm concerned. A no proze works for me, I like head chopping contests :). It would be neat if we could, like, do a pyramid ladder thing with votes etc...
There should be a time limit on the entry, I would suggest under a minute at the most, short and sweet. We should also specify if effects are disallowed, or if it's a free for all.

Tim;

I ain't much of a geetar player, just an ol Blues Rocker from the 70's that was out of music for 20 years, but I'm game. :D

I love to play and I love to record.

hey guys, well good to see that theres some involvment here.hows it going axe, you been doing any song writitng lately? i realy enjoyed some of the stuff you were doing, had a great message and had some great guitar playin.its always nice to see someone who is spiritualy where i am.as for the contest i would like to build a pyramid and see if maybe we can some of these people around here with good ears to be judges.i just figured we would play for points, and the idea that we can learn from our opponents is awesome.on guitar war . com they have to tab there work out for learning purposes. i used to do this there and it was fun.theres alot of realy good players over there. but weve gott some good players wright here to. just to say it again gidge i wasnt flaming you and im sorry if i offended you in any way. please feel free to join us this will be fun. anyway thanks for your responses guys. god bless you all tim pate

i didnt mean my post as a flame, and i didnt take yours as one, and i definitely aint offended.....if we cant disagree on a issue and still shake hands, what would that say about us ;) :)

the only thing i meant by "less than desirables" is the fact that people are just gonna start showing up for the "free guitar wars" that have no interest in recording....and it is a recording website first and foremost......

and this is just one mans opinion.....

thanks gidge,im not such a great guitarist myself. but i think this would be benificial in the fact that we here at this bbs could realy learn from eachother. not to mention that we could also comment on mixes a little bit.god bless

I am with Gidge on this one....

The MP3 clinic already exists and works well for constructive input and criticism.

While I have not been to the guitar war site the guitar competition theme brings up a vision of a guitar "pissing" contest" with lots of flames and attitudes.

I am not against competition in the right circumstances mind you...I just like the fairly mature (for musicians anyway :D ) and respectfull exchange of ideas and information here.

Starting a who's the best or better than forum could change alot of that ...but then again I could just keep my nose out of that particular forum too.

Just my thoughts

Having visited www.guitarwar.com numerous times, I can assure you, there are few attitudes there. All "battles" I have followed were most cordial and friendly.

This reminds me, aside from my comments above, about how a guitar war is kind of silly. Music to me is more a form of self expression. Not a sport.

Kind of like those "who's better" or "most dangerous tone" threads. Very subjective.

This reminds me of a guitarist's website I happened upon. He was in the finals of some guitar contest where Steve Vai judged the finalists. The guitarist came in second and commented that Steve has bad taste for not choosing him as the winner.

Funny thing was, the guitarist had clips of his playing. Not a great guitarist at all.
