Damn sweet guitar that rivals PRS. I dropped in the 81/85 combo and changed the stock bridge & tailpiece with TonePros. It was as good as it can get at that point!!

I'm intrigued: which TonePros bridge did you get and what did it do for ya?

I'm trying to decide how much sense it makes throwing another $400+ at my $500-600 guitar. It's a Schecter C-1 Elite (link to picture below) and I really love how it looks, and how it plays... for the most part. The pickups definitely need to be replaced with something more geared towards my style, like a set of EMG's (81/85), the tuners are OK but I'd rather have locking auto-cutting tuners (link also at bottom), and possibly a new bridge, although it might just be that the one I have needs filing or something, but the low E falls out of the saddle pretty damn easily, which is no good.

So basically, I need to weigh the benefits of upgrading this guitar with selling it and purchasing one that costs more up front but has most or all of the upgrades I'm talking about. Personally, I really like this guitar in spite of the aforementioned issues, and if it at all makes sense I'd like to keep it.

Thoughts?

Check out the DiMarzio DP102 X2N. Hottest passive pickup you can get. These things sound every bit as good as the EMGs and there no batteries.

It was the matched bridge and tailpiece set. They are awesome quality and have locking screws that hold them in place. The nicest feature is the tailpiece & bridge won't fall off when you change strings! The sustain is also increased due to the solid connection at the bridge.

If you do get your bridge worked out, at least get the locking studs for the tailpiece. You can get them on ebay for about $35 a set. Make sure you get the metric set.

Guitars are like women. Get rid of them at their first sign of wear. :p

Kidding. If you love the way the guitar plays and feels, why not make it sound better?

Completely different than EMGs, though, so if he is after the sound of an EMG....

Well, maybe. I'm not sure that the difference would be great enough to notice, at least for most people.

That being said, they do make nice stuff, which I use from time to time (I always use them for guitars with piezo bridge pickups, as I can't get a piezo version of the Gotoh 510 bridge I like to use.) Oh, and the Tone Pros stuff is made by Gotoh, so the color of it is a pretty good match for Gotoh gears and such. (There are few things more mind numbing than talking to a guy who just bought a $2000+ guitar who doesn't like the way the chrome on his bridge doesn't quite match his gears, trust me on this one. All the more so because - while he is a bit of a nudge - he's right.)
