I notice that most people here are using Pro Audio or a version of Sonar to do their recording. Any Cakewalk Guitar Tracks II or Guitar Tracks Pro users here?

I prefer the uncluttered, more comfortable "console" style of these apps, and find they are quite capable in the features department.
Since nobody seems to talk about these apps, I figured I'd mention them for anyone who is turned off the the more complicated layout of those other Cakewalk versions.

Plus, if you have a registered version of Cakewalk, Guitar Tracks Pro is only $49! 32 track digital recording has never been so cheap.

Anyway, if for some reason I need it, I can always export my BUN file into Sonar (which I also have) and work on it there, but this has yet to happen.

Yeah, I think it's one of those good brother of SONAR. I think it's good, but since I'm happy with SONAR 2.2XL, I didn't dig this one that much.

Guitar tracks pro would be great if you could record at 24bit.

It supports 24 bit.

It also supports as many inputs as your soundcard (and CPU) will allow, and will record them on seperate tracks.

I've had GT Pro for about a year now. It suits me perfectly. Easy to use, good manual and the end results sound good.

Somewhere in the Guitar Tracks Pro manual, it says, that this program only uses MME drivers, it will only record 24 bit audio IF you are using a proper MME driver for your (24 bit capable)soundcard, SO if you are running anything newer than win98se AND are using WDM drivers for your soundcard, GTPro will only be able to access the drivers in MME mode, and with most WDM drivers doing this will limit the driver to 16 bit.

Now if you only need 2in/2 out you might want to look at the Edirol UA-20 USB audio I/O, I have one, and it has TWO different drivers for win2000/XP, one is the WDM driver, the other is an MME driver that will allow GTPro to record/playback at 24 bit under 2000/XP.

There is of course a catch, that being, you can only have ONE of the drivers installed at a time, either the MME, OR the WDM.

If you already have something like a Delta, you might want to e-mail M-Audio's tech support and see if it's possible to use their win98se vxd driver (MME) in 2000/XP, if so, you will be able to use your current card at 24 bit with GTPro.
 
And there's absolutely no MIDI or DXi support. Drums will take forever to make... :(
 
Thats right, It will work at 24 bit with MME drivers. I wished it used WDM drivers. It total screws up my computer when I try to install drivers to get it to run at 24 bit.

Is the MME-drivers 24-bit capable?
 
I'm not sure if the MME Drivers are 24 bit capable. I think they should be?

I do know however that Win2K, Audiophile 24/96 and guitar tracks Pro will not run at 24 bit in my system. If I go into Guitar tracks pro, audio and change from 16 to 24 bit, I loose my mixer view and it screws up the whole computer. the only way I can get anything to work again is to reformat the HD and reinstall ever thing again. I have spoken to Tech support at Calkwalk and Maudio, they both say try different drivers? bla bla bla"

But anyway, I now have sonar and I don't have any problems going to 24bit rate.

So basically the MME-drivers weren't 24-bit capable. But your WDM/ASIO-drivers were...

That's another point about any Cakewalk product besides Sonar. Why not inclued more driver-options than MME (and HS can use WDM)? They can use ASIO-drivers, I'm sure!
 
Hmm, I just read the whole chapter on soundcard drivers in the manual. Not a single mention of MME or WDM drivers. It just tells how and when you can select audio drivers and set up the bitrate.

Anyway, if this is really a problem...is Cakewalk ever known to release patches? :)

Oh well, doesn't matter at this point, since my soundcard doesn't support 24bit recording.

BTW, anyone here using Soundblaster Audigy II?

FYI, latest MME driver will be able to playback 24 bit, but not record. WDM & ASIO drivers did 'em both fine if the card support them AND the software allows you to do so.
