Hey guys

im trying to get my guitarist to improve his technique. He's a decent guitarist but self taught with a lot of really bad habits. I wanna get him something that isn't necessarily a "beginners" DVD (even tho what he needs is to go back to basics)

any ideas?

I thought John Petrucci's 'Rock Discipline' was pretty good. I'm self taught, lazy, and full of bad habits, and there was some pretty useful stuff there that helped me improve a lot of things. There is some discpline involved to some degree. Practicing all these excercises every day can get pretty boring after a while but it does help.

If he's not opposed to "shred," that's a GREAT one.

If he's not only not opposed, but actually all for it, some of Rusty Cooley's stuff from Chops From Hell might be worth a look too.

The Hands of Steel DVD from Rockhouse seems pretty solid
