Guitar nut help needed

Hello again Home Recording it's been a while since I've logged in (school started again) and I've missed this place.

Now that I'm back I have a question on n00b level:
I have a guitar that's nut has cracked off from the low E string.

I went nut searching...and...well... there are a lot of nuts out there.
Anyone have any idea what kind of nut I need ?:o

Take the broken one and head to a good musical instrument store. Most luthiers cut their own from blanks. If you can't find one that matches, it'll cost you about $75 to have one cut for you.
 
From that link you can see that if you can measure your existing one exactly, you can get a pre-shaped nut - but you will still need to cut the string notches.
 
if you want a softer sound, try a graphtech nut. its made of graphite, which is softer than bone and gives you a softer attack and helps the guitar stay in tune better. I use them, they are like 5 bucks.

I don't know what idiot told you that but it's utter nonsense. The guitar nut has nothing what so ever to do with "a softer sound" or "attack". This topic has been covered extensively in the guitar and bass forum.
 
I had a cracked nut on my bass. I just glued the broken piece back in. Problem solved. Of course, if you're missing a piece of yours, that won't help.
