alright. i am taking this opportunity to do a check of the FAQ. here is the story of me finding what mic to use on electric guitar on the FAQ.
first i go to
http://www.hr-faq.org/. i wish the address was easier to find. (no sticky, no link)
ok. first thing i notice, a page full of links. not very user friendly. you have to read a paragraph or so to get to what you want. also microphone theory is on top. makes logical sense... but does it make sense to the user? how many people are interested in microphone theory over microphone uses? in this case, it is a waste of important (upper left hand) space.
also i am a bit distracted by the buttons on top... should i click these or wade through all the text? i decide on the text.
at the very very bottom of my page is the line/link:
"I want to record electric guitar. What mic should I use?"
clicking on the link dips you down to this text:
"I want to record electric guitar. What mic should I use?
-The mike that generally gets called up again and again for miking guitar amps is the Shure SM57. If you're just getting in, this mic is probably the perfect thing to start out with.
-A [sennheiser] 421 will give you a little fuller tone, 57's a little more transparent. - dafduc"
fair enough. not exactly teeming with info.
conclusion: more info, better organized info needed. typical problems...
here is the meat of it. pretty hard to find all things considered though... i click on it.
