I have a Pod XT and the associated Line6 Edit software that I've been happily and flawlessly using for many (10) years. Well the power switch on the hardware Pod failed so I started looking at all the other software I've installed over the years that I could use for guitar tone.
These include Guitar Rig, Riffworks, Gearbox, PODfarm, and Waves GTR. None of these however seem to want to work as a straight in tone source. In other words I like to hear the tone as I'm playing and record that. With the Pod XT I was taking it analog from the Pod then through the board and into my sound card. (E-Mu 1212) All the others are pure software and do not want to operate stand alone with a DAW as they seem to want to do battle over drivers and such. I use multiple DAW's (Sonar, Cuebase, Reason) so would prefer not to be treating the guitar tone source as a VST plugin from within the DAW, which reason doesn't support anyway. Any advice on how to get this to work or am I asking for something that's not do-able?? Thanks to all and any!

I don't understand what the issue is. Simply fire up Cubase and run the software as VST plugins. Mixdown the recording with effects and there you have an audio file that each of your DAW's can access independently.

I'm not familiar with Cubase, Sonar or Reason, but as Bane says in his post, you'll have to add a track and then either add "FX", via a plug-in, to that track (like in Studio One) and select the amp modeling software or in the case of Reaper you can add it as an "instrument track" and then select the plug-in (VST, VSTi, AU, etc.) from there. That's how I do it and I can monitor the sound while I'm playing. Depending on your DAW you might have to turn on output monitoring so look for that too.

Good luck. Post more details if you're still having trouble, I think I can help you through this.

Vst

Thanks Guys, Well the VST option doesnt work in Reason if I happen to be doing a project in Reason.
Sometimes I just want to pick up the guitar and play along with some mp3's or maybe a friend. I previously had the option of using the pod and just setting the tone I needed at the moment from the software and play away. Now I have to open a DAW, set up a channel with a plugin. Was just hoping to maintain the conveinience. I suppose I can always drop a bill or two and get the unit repaired or replaced..

You could replace the unit, but setting up a template in Cubase with all your FX and simply jamming along to that shouldn't have many disadvantages. Lack of VST support in Reaper is your problem. But still any Cubase sessions you want to keep can be bounced to WAV files and imported into Reaper.

What you were doing before was converting the signal from analog-to-digital (Pod) to the software, then back digital-to-analog (Pod again) and out as analog to your Emu which was doing another analog-to-digital conversion. How were you monitoring - what were you plugged into with speakers or headphones?
