Guitar Compressor for studio recording?

hey guys --

are guitar compressors/limiter useful for compression of other sound sources in a recording studio (e.g., synths, drum machines)?? I am asking coz I saw that my local music store has a few Rocktron 300G compressors/limiter on sale for $42. How do they sound like?

I recomend one compressor EVERY one should save up and buy... you can compress the hell out of a sound with little to no loss.. i did a whole album with this on just about all my guitars and im verry pleased
