Guitar clarity question

I'm getting ready to record but am having a hell of a time getting a clear guitar tone into my PC. Any knee-jerk reactions are appreciated!
Here's what I'm running:
Behringer V-Amp Pro (using the Savage Beast model)
Alesis graphic EQ
E-Mu 0404 card

Not really, but i would ditch the graphic EQ

Sounds like your distorting the signal somewhere along the way. Look at the gain settings you are using in each oy your devices. Try taking each of the units out of the chain to see which one is adding too much gain.

Start with just the guitar going direct into the E-mu.
