Guitar Cables... Your opinion needed

Dunno what you're plugging into but they should do the job....

I've never had issues with any of the fender california cables.

I don't know anything about Fender cables but I have heard
alot of good things about Bill Lawrence cables and plan to
pick up some when I order my new tele picksups.
I've been using Dimarzio which were an improvement over my
previous cables.

In my opinion (and others may disagree) the main features you should look for in a guitar cable are reliability and lack of noise when you shake the cable around. Again in my opinion, the sonic claims made by the expensive cable manufacturers are snake oil.

Fender cable = soso

I'm working in a music store and I'm selling those kind of cables...

Personnally, I'll never go with theses cables. They are good looking, but when you look carefully they are cheap...

Digiflex or Planet waves would be better I Think

There's nothing wrong with cheap, per se, as long as they are functional.

i've used george l's cables since 1979.

i still have an original cable i made in 1979, i use it as a patch cable in my home studio.

i can't say enough good things about these cables.

i even use them instead of TRS cables for short runs, and with side by side comparisons, there's no difference between high end TRS and the george l's.

i've bought monster cables, planet waves, fender, lava, none of them sound as good as the george l's.

the bill lawrence cables are supposed to be very similar to the george l's.

but for the money, and the fact that they've won almost all the cable shootouts, i don't think you can go wrong with george l's.

Good quality cables don't improve or add to your tone, they just don't take away from it. :)

I'll agree with that, and add that at least some of the claims by makers of expensive cables that less expensive cables made by their competitors will take away from it are unsubstantiated.

Yes sir eee, I agree.

I read some where that George use to be the distributor for Bill's cables.
I also read a AB compairson where Bill's 25' cable had less capacitance than
George's 10' cable.
If any of you haven't visited Bills Wylde forum at Bill site you should there is a lot of useful info on guitar setup and wiring schematics.
And in case you don't know the only way you can get one of his products is from him direct. All these BL products you see on Ebay and online store are
not made by Bill and sound poor in compairison.

Less capacitance is not necessarily worth anything. If the cutoff frequency (3 dB down point in a lowpass filter model) is out of the audio range anyway, then lowering the capacitance buys you nothing.

this is true.

some people actually use the higher capacitance as a means to tailor their 'eq'.

the old curly cables used to roll off a lot of high end, which meant you could run your amp hotter on the treble, and get a nice crunchy sound that didn't take your head off.

could be, the finest cable will sound like crap to someone who really doesn't want crispy sound.

I have used the $3.99 20ft cables from Musicians Friend that have the yellow shrink wrap on the ends for several years and have never had one fail...ever. The cable is on the skinny side, but they don't crackle, and they have been holding up. I have probably bought about 40 of these cables, use them live twice a week, as so does our keyboard player. I probably have about 6 of these cables in my live rig, as I am using a looper, a gtr synth and a Boss Gt-8 all into a mixer with these cables. Plus I use them at home in the "home studio" and my chair rolls over them all the time, and they haven't wimpered yet.
I have tried quite an amount of different cables to see if the "hype" was really true. Other than durability, my ears can't tell a difference.

That said, I did buy some cheapie patch cables that were horrible. I ended up throwing them away as they really distorted the sound. I was shocked. Something like five 2ft cables for 10 bucks...in colors. You know the kind. Those were pure garbage. But the MF cables, shoot I'd give them a shot. For $30 you get more than a half dozen cables or so, and it includes the shipping.

Thanks for all the replies... I ended up getting Planet Waves cables, because I found them for a relatively cheap price on ebay :)

Thanks for all the help

Bit late but.. Whirlwind Z-chord all the way, most reliable cable I ever used, and they're not too expensive either
