I know some ya'll like finding cheap guitars. I'm a bassist, but dabble with guitar from time to time. I've had one I liked, but it has an imitation Floyd Rose on it, and changing strings or tunings has always been a PIA. So I've been wanting something with a set bridge for a while. But, being a Bass guy, I have no real desire to dump several hundred $$$ into a guitar.
So... a local store started carrying a brand of guitars... "S101". that are fairly cheap, and decent enough build quality for what I'm looking for. I've found a couple sellers on Ebay (Search S101) that all seem to be going for under $200 including shipping. So, I bought one. $130 with shipping!
The Seller claimed to have set it up, and that it was new. There were some small marks on the body, but nothing I wouldn't have done eventually anyway. The strings were absolute garbage, but we all put our favorites on first thing anyway. The neck had to be adjusted and the bridge set properly, but intonation was decent. It needs a little fret work on three frets to really achieve the best action, although it's still decent as is. But the finish was decent (especially for the price), and now that its been set up plays much better. It has a decent low output, vintage vibe to the sound and actually feels solid in my hands.
Anyway... I thought I'd share my findings, and pass along "the find" to anyone looking for something cheap to mess around with or a birthday/Christmas present for someone just getting started.
