Guitar amps

Can someone help me with picking out a new guitar amp? I am looking to spend about $400 to $500 dollars, and not on one that starts sounding like crap after about a year! Thanks!

a good guitar amp should last you more than a year, and you can get some decent amps in that range.. what kind of amp are you looking for? tube vs. solid-state, combo, half-stack, stack, etc..

Probably a solid state one. The reason I brought this other thing up: my first amp was a 15 watt Fender, and it suited me fine for about a year to a year and a half. After that, it started distorting the sound when I played the low strings clean. I couldn't turn it past about 2.5 (in volume) without hearing this distortion. I heard most (lower range) Crate amps do this also, so I'm trying to find out more about some quality amps! Thanks!

what will you use this amp for? recording, gigging, just playing to yourself..what?? I could make a choise with that info..

Check out the Trace-Elliot Velocette.. wicked amp.. don't let the 15W rating fool ya though.. this amp rips.

Around $900 Canadian, so that's what $600 USD?

Well, yeah, for playing to myself and doing my home recording. =)
 
If you want "quality"... don't buy a low-end Crate amp. The last time I visited the electronics repaiman, there was an entire wall of Crate amps waiting for repair.
A Peavey Bandit is a good choice for the money.
 
This is my opinion: go with a tube amp..if your buying a smaller amp for home recording, and jamming, a nice tube amp will sound very nice for both......Go with a Mesa/Boogie single rectifier 1 X 12 combo....it might cost you a little more, but you will be happier.......and no it will not start sounding like crap after a year, and yes I am very biased towards Boogie amps even though they use Nazi sales tactics....
 
Clean your volume pot, the distortion should go away...and it will be less than a new amp...
But buy another amp anyway.
