Guitar amps that wives will let you keep in the living room

In the living room?? Make sure it's waterproof for the inevitable water/cawfeeee/wine/flower vase/bowlofcereal spill.

I have six :p Nice try though :D

The good news is the penis-measuring contest can soon end. I've ordered parts to build the cabinet--I decided to just go with passive cabinet rather than active amp, because guitarists are too fussy about their amps and they can't all be expected to see things my way. That will come another day.

So I've got a 2x8 ported cab, 16 or 4 ohm, Speakon or 1/4" locking input, built-in 100W variable attenuator. Front finish can be trim ring, metal grille, or cloth grille.

When it's done I'll send it to Lt. Bob for his verdict :)
Ya' know ...... I've long been wondering about a 2x8 cab.

Seriously ........

Hey, we're not talking size, were talking sperm count here.

Kudos to you for being able to keep nice stuff in harm's way...

I'm stuck with three pre-schoolers that pillage like vikings.

Too bad Gallen Kruger stopped making those guitar amps with the 2-6 1/2" woofers...those had a good tone...and could be stashed behind a chair they were so small.

Oh, size, you probably win. And I can't keep anything like this in my house either, but rich old people can. Like Lt. Bob! Who shall have his 2x8 cab  FOR FREE! Well, maybe in exchange for some good audio samples :o

well I'm pretty damned sure we can work something out!

:)

You got it half right BTW.
I'm old for sure but rich has never been an adjective that fit anywhere near my name.
:D

Well I got the parts today. All is well, except remember this pic of the driver?

I mean, that is a cool-looking driver. I like how the hemp cone looks green enough that you'd actually think about smoking it

But I get the driver today and the cone is flat black. It's clearly the right part, it's just that the cone is black. I think that kills a huge amount of visual appeal, and this cab is all about visuals

I'm gonna have my PartsX rep contact Eminence and see what is up with this

You might have to start from scratch and buy a pair of matching ones off the rack...or else figure on covering them...doesnt seem safe anyway...what if somebody brings over a toddler...those cone covers act like magnets...and they have to push them in.

I think he had grills for them in that first pic.

That's the other trick, the 8" grilles are a bit too big for the cabinet, which is just 9" wide. 7" grilles would be perfect as I'm rear-routing the speakers, but of course that's a non-standard size :( and 6 1/2" are too small. Further thought is required . . . I could leave just 6 1/2" opening, that is about the size of the cone, but I'd have some tricky routing for clearance for excursion of the surround . . .

But yeah, the idea is three finish options: (detachable) cloth covering the whole panel, metal grille, raw driver.
